Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-Door Coupe production starts

ABU DHABI: Mercedes-AMG has officially confirmed that the production of the GT 4-Door Coupe has started. This latest four-door vehicle was recently showcased at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. It shares the styling cues with the original GT and the gets the same underpinnings as the CLS.

The GT 4-Door Coupe is available with three different engine variants. The low-end variant of the vehicle features a 3.0-litre, turbocharged inline-six engine which can pump out up to 435 PS of power. The mid-level variant is the GT 63 and which features a bi-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 engine, which is capable of thrusting out a maximum of 585 PS power along with a peak torque of 800 Nm. The GT 63 S is the top-end trim and which gets the same engine as GT 63 but with tuning. It can churn out up to 639 PS of power and 900 Nm of torque. AWD is offered on all the three models and the power is sent to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The production phase of the GT 4-Door Coupe will be done in the company’s Sindelfingen plant. Hence, after the AMG GT and SLS AMG, this vehicle will be the third sports car to be produced in-house here. In 2014, both the Works Council at Sindelfingen and Daimler agreed on this matter.

The Plant Manager of Sindelfingen, Michael Bauer said that their team is highly excited to work on the production models of GT 4-Door Coupe.

A whopping 1.5 billion Euro will be allocated on the Sindelfingen plant by Daimler before 2020 ends. The amount will be a part of the vehicle’s 'Future Vision 2020+ and for the EQ electric brand. Moreover, for the purpose of research and development, another 600 Euro will be invested. So, the Sindelfingen plant will get a total investment of 2.1 billion Euro in coming years.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be introduced in different markets from October 2018 onwards.
