Two petrol engines are offered: a 2.7L four-cylinder with 164 hp and 245 Nm on the EXR, and a 4.0L V6 with 235 hp and 376 Nm on the GXR and VXR. Both use a 6-speed automatic with part-time four- wheel drive.
The 2.7L four-cylinder makes 164 hp and 245 Nm, while the 4.0L V6 produces 235 hp and 376 Nm - the stronger choice for highway pace and loaded off-road driving.
The 2.7L four-cylinder is rated at about 10.4 km/L, while the 4.0L V6 returns around 9.6 km/L. Both carry an 80-litre fuel tank for long touring range.
Every Fortuner grade seats seven across three rows, with rear air-conditioning vents. Its body-on- frame build and tall stance suit families who also want genuine off-road ability.
Yes. All grades use part-time four-wheel drive, and the GXR and VXR add a rear differential lock. With a tall 1,835 mm body and a rugged ladder frame, it is set up for rough terrain and desert tracks.
Every grade has dual front airbags plus a driver knee airbag, an engine immobiliser, cruise control and a rear-view camera. The top VXR adds a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and a panoramic view monitor.
The VXR leads, adding leather seats, ventilated and powered front seats, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic view monitor, blind-spot monitor, powered back door, bi-beam LED headlamps and 18-inch alloys over the EXR and GXR.
Driver aids are fairly basic: standard cruise control across the range, with a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert only on the VXR. There is no adaptive cruise control on this lineup.
All grades use an 8-inch display audio system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and six speakers, plus a 4.2-inch colour TFT in the instrument cluster. The screen size is the same across the range.
