Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Step inside the cabin of the G-Class by putting your feet on the side step (this is quite a big vehicle to climb in) and you will be surprised to feel the modernity of this SUV on the inside. The overall cabin of the G-Class takes some inspiration from other modern Mercedes- Benz offerings, however, the originality of the layout of the interiors hasn’t tampered much with.

The three-spoke steering wheel looks like an evolution of the older version. However, the 12.1-inch horizontally wide and full colored instrument console, which also integrates the infotainment system as well, looks simply stunning and adds some futuristic essence to the cabin.

The center console too feels wide and chunky, with an old-school design for the buttons of climate control adding to the emotional appeal. Another interesting bit of the interior cabin design is the round theme for the AC vents with a propeller-like design.

The Mercedes Benz G-Class packs in all the modern features usually seen on a high-end Mercedes-Benz car of today’s times, so it is undoubtedly a modern vehicle to withstand the tides of changing time. However, the rear seat space is quite limited with a slight shortage of leg room at the back. However, the squared theme for the side glasses makes the interior cabin feel very airy.

As said above, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has a timeless design which is an emotion of its own. Even with the latest iteration, Mercedes-Benz has managed to retain that same timeless appeal in its boxy and angular design, which is not at all with the current trends of SUV designing.

At the front, the G-Class comes with a rectangular grille with horizontal chrome slats and a big Mercedes Benz logo in between. The old-school theme has been well executed for the round theme for the main headlamps as well as fender mounted turn indicators. However, the headlamps are full LED units, just in case, you feel that it looks old!

The side profile of the new G-Class is completely similar to the previous generation design, however, the new version gets a new set of alloy wheels. The squared theme for the doors, side windows, and front fender looks very old-school, but that’s the beauty of the G-Class, that here, this design theme looks quite tempting.

At the rear, the G-Class retains the large rear windshield, door mounted a spare wheel and rectangular tail lamp assembly, to make sure that it retains its iconic design.

As with all the previous generations of G-Class, the current one too is based on a ladder frame chassis. This literally translates to a considerable amount of body roll, however, thanks to the presence of stabilizers and lower center of gravity, the effect has been reduced quite massively.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class comes with a powerful 4.0-litre Bi-turbo V8 petrol engine under its hood. In this G500 version, the SUV pumps out a maximum power output of 425PS and a peak torque output of 610Nm. The engine is coupled to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and the SUV is capable of hitting the top speed of 210 kmph.

Given that it is a high-end Mercedes Benz vehicle, the G-Class comes with a long list of features, which include front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, cornering brake control, dynamic traction control and hill start assist, and many more.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class might look too utilitarian in front of its other siblings, owing to its old-fashioned design theme. However, it is this very design theme which gives the G-Class an identity and fan-base of its own. The levels of quality, premium feel and performance are quite high, just like in other Mercedes offerings, which makes us believe that the hegemony of the G-Class is only going to be longer.
