Porsche 911 Expert Review
Abhishek Katariya says
The Porsche 911 is one of the all-time legendary icons of the automotive world, which doesn’t need any introduction. The current 992 iteration of the Porsche 911 is the most modern and tech-packed take on the legendary sportscar, which is regarded as one of the bests when it comes to driving appeal. Like all the other Porsche models, one can customize Porsche 911 as per his/her choice, with several customization options available for exterior, interior, and component upgrades.
Porsche 911 Interior & Features
While Porsche has not changed the exterior of the 911 drastically compared to its predecessor, the cabin of the sportscar now looks tech-packed and modern to date. Porsche has nicely played with the good choices of full-TFT screen displays for the instrument console while keeping the centrally-placed analogue tachometer intact – a tradition which is followed by all the Porsches.
The overall design of the cabin looks simple and classy, with the almost vertical design for the upper layer of the dashboard giving it a sense of width and modernity. This upper layer houses a wide touchscreen infotainment system in the middle in an almost vertical fashion, while the lower centre console looks minimalist with toggle-like buttons for the automatic climate control. The centre tunnel looks wide and high, and looks premium with the array of nicely arranged controls and buttons along with gloss black and brushed aluminium touches everywhere.
911 Exterior
In all these years since its inception, the Porsche 911 has been retaining the iconic, minimalist design derived from the-then Beetle, which has evolved nicely without losing its essence and originality. In the current iteration, it looks very modern and classy, with the minimalist design going well with the modern design cues and elements.
At the front, the Porsche 911 continues to have the rounded headlamp housings positioned in a slanted manner. These headlamp housings now get all-LED projectors along with quad daytime running LEDs within them. The front bumper looks sleek with a large air dam in the middle, with the Porsche 911 does not get a functional grille between the headlamps or on the bottom of the bonnet. The large air dam, which spans across the width of the front bumper, is partitioned into three parts while having gloss black highlights on the corners. The bonnet lines are smooth and make the Porsche 911 look aerodynamic.
The side profile of the Porsche 911 continues to have the sleek, smooth and simple profile, which has been the identity of the sportscar for ages. The steeply falling roofline gives it a traditional stance of a coupe, while the two-door design with door-mounted mirrors and the clean profile adds to its sporty elegance. The wheels get smooth-looking haunches, with the Porsche 911 getting a wide number of choices for alloy wheels.
At the back, the Porsche 911 once again impresses with its clean minimalism, as the sportscar looks edgy and impressive with the continuous LED bar joining the slim-looking LED tail lamps. This LED bar gives it a sense of width, giving it a nicely planted stance, along with the muscular-looking bumper with a sporty rear diffuser. There is a unique brake light at the bottom of the rear windscreen, which adds to the visual drama of the Porsche 911.
Porsche 911 Ride & Handling
The most highly-praised aspect of the Porsche 911 has always been its driving dynamics, and this new model follows the tradition with its suite of electronics and excellent hardware under the skin. The Porsche 911 comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management with sports suspension, Porsche Stability Management and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, all of which contribute to keeping it sure-footed across all speeds, corners and stretches.
911 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Porsche 911 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which is one of the most powerful and high-revving six-cylinder engines currently in the automotive world. Available with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, this engine is capable of producing 385 PS of maximum power output and 450 Nm of maximum torque output. The Porsche 911 is capable of touching a top speed of 293 kmph, while doing the 0-100 kmph run in 4.2 seconds. Normal, Sport Plus, Wet and Individual are the four driving modes, which can be controlled via a small knob on the steering wheel.
Porsche 911 Braking & Safety
The Porsche 911 is complete with all the safety features which are usually found in a car as expensive as it, such as airbags all around, ABS with EBD, brake assist, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system and a whole suite of ADAS functions.
911 Verdict
The Porsche 911 is a dream on wheels, with nothing faulty in the way it performs or handles, thus fulfilling the requirements of a sports car with absolute ease. It is an expensive affair, but so is every sports car out there. But in all aspects, the Porsche 911 scores heavily, which makes it a near-perfect car.
