Toyota Supra

While the exterior of the Toyota Supra looks very distinctive and a homage to the original Supra, the interior is where you will instantly feel its BMW Z4 connection. The overall layout and a few components of the cabin of the Toyota Supra have been shared with the BMW Z4, though it differentiates itself with its dual-tone black and wine-red theme.

The Toyota Supra has a round-themed multi-functional steering wheel and a full-TFT instrument console behind it for its driver’s cockpit, which has also been garnished with gloss black inserts and wine-red trim. At the top of the centre console of the dashboard sits a free-standing 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which features Apple CarPlay and is a window to the fantastic-sounding 12-speaker JBL audio system.

The central layer of the dashboard of the Toyota Supra houses AC vents in the centre console, while there is a sleek layer of audio control buttons in the lower centre console, which has a wraparound design. This lower centre console also accommodates the dual-zone automatic climate control panel and switches for a few other functions, including the transmission lever, electronic parking brake and drive mode controls.

The cabin of the Toyota Supra is bestowed with other comfort and convenience features like powered front seats, head-up display, ambient lighting, paddle shifters, wireless charger, push start-stop button and more.

If you look at the new Toyota Supra up close and personal, you will realize that this car is a modern interpretation of the iconic Toyota Supra from the late 1980s. The overall curvaceous styling and low-slung stance of the original Supra takes a more visually dramatic form in the new Toyota Supra, which is easily one of the best-looking sports cars in the current era.

The front profile of the Toyota Supra looks extremely curvaceous with the swooping curves on the long bonnet, that flow towards the curved, large-sized all-LED headlamps. Garnished with attractive daytime running LEDs, these all-LED headlamps have scoops sitting below their outer edges while stretching towards the front bonnet. Along with these scoops, there are additional air passages on the front bumper, which add an aerodynamic appeal to the front look of the Toyota Supra.

The long and low-slung stance of the Toyota Supra is at its very best when it is viewed from the side, with the sports car having long overhangs and low ground clearance. Adding more style and muscular appeal to the overall look of the Supra are the well-sculpted fenders at the front and rear. The Toyota Supra also gets air recesses in the door panels and a sloping roofline, continuing its appeal as an aerodynamic sports car.

Compared to the front and side profiles, the rear look of the Toyota Supra is relatively less dramatic, though the sports car still looks like a fine piece of art with its large and horizontally stretched LED tail lamps. The stubby boot of the Supra looks clean and has less visual drama, while the rear bumper adds much-needed sportiness with a huge diffuser at the bottom.

The Toyota Supra also shows its BMW connection with the way it handles and takes on the corners with its sharply-tuned steering and suspension setups and 19-inch wheels. The adaptive variable suspension, rear-wheel drive setup and integrated sport driving with normal and sport modes fine-tune the overall driving experience and make it more thrilling.

The Toyota Supra gets the same 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine which powers the range-topping variant of the BMW Z4. Available with 8-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission options, the Toyota Supra claims a maximum power output of 385 PS and a maximum torque output of 500 Nm. With this engine, the Toyota Supra can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.1 seconds, while reaching an electronically-controlled top speed of 250 kmph.

The long list of safety features available in the Toyota Supra include front, side, curtain and driver knee airbags, adaptive cruise control, electronic parking brake, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, blind spot monitoring system, lane departure warning, lane change assist, pre-collision system, traffic sign recognition system, front and rear parking sensors and reverse camera.

The Toyota Supra retains the essence of the original first-generation Supra in the way it looks and feels behind the steering wheel, even though this essence has BMW genes in it.
