BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe

The 4 Series Gran Coupe retains the interior of the 3 Series, but in a more glorious form. All thanks to the better choice of materials and color combinations.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe does get the same three-spoke steering wheel as well as full TFT instrument console from the 3 Series. However, the driver-oriented wide centre console looks absolutely well-finished with an array of buttons for the automatic climate control and infotainment system positioned below the AC vents. The free-standing infotainment system too has been lifted off from the 3-Series in the same dimensional form. However, it is the color combination of the doors, dashboard panel, and seats with distinctive stitching pattern which separates it from the 3 Series.

Since the wheelbase, as well as sloping roofline design, has been kept similar to that of the 4 Series Coupe, expect limited legroom and headroom.

Just like its coupe version, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe looks like a lifestyle version of the regular 3 Series, with sleeker and more contemporary stance.

The famous BMW double kidney grille on the 4 Series Gran Coupe is in its sleekest ever form. And adjacent to it is the equally sleeker full LED headlamps, which seem to be retained from the 3 Series. The bonnet gets uplifted stance from the middle and sharper creases as well.

It is the side profile which distinguishes the 4 Series Gran Coupe from its 2-door coupe version. In comes the four-door profile, with the doors having a frameless design, giving it a sportier stance. The ORVMs get chrome surround over them which uplift the premium appeal of the 4 Series Gran Coupe.

The rounded roofline seamlessly blends in with the C-pillar, which ends up in a plainly designed boot. This happens to be the same as that on the 3 Series, with big and curvy LED tail lamps.

To go with the sportier stance of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, BMW has stiffened up the suspension which has been retained from the 3 Series. This results in a more agile handling and planted feel over all kinds of roads, making it an even more fun to ride machine. The 4 Series Gran Coupe also comes with three different driving modes, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+, which alters the suspension settings depending on the driver’s preference.

Suiting its athletic stance, BMW has equipped the 4 Series Gran Coupe with the most powerful engine option of the 3 Series. Available in the 440i guise, the 4 Series Gran Coupe comes with a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine under its hood. The engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, is capable of belting out 326 PS of maximum power and 450 Nm of peak torque.

One of the poshest offerings from its entry-level lineup, BMW has equipped the 4 Series Gran Coupe with all the essential safety features one would expect from a car of this price. The safety package includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, cornering brake control, dynamic traction control, and hill start assist.

Positioned between the 3 Series and 5 Series sedan offerings, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is a perfectly balanced car which comes with enhanced visual appeal and even more agile driving dynamics. While the car is an absolute delight to look at, courtesy the sloping roofline and frameless doors, the four-door design ensures that it is high on practicality as well. At the same time, the BMW’s pedigree of spot-on suspension and steering gives it a fun to drive character which is hard to match.
