Mercedes-Benz introduces long-wheelbase GLC in China

ABU DHABI: China is known to be a country where most European luxury automakers bring the longer wheelbase version of the standard cars. The latest addition to the list is the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is a midsize SUV, to get the treatment in the form of the GLC L.

With the introduction of the longer wheelbase version of the SUV, the company might have just hit the right chords to make the already-popular GLC even more preferred among the buyers. The elongated version now measures 4,765 mm, which means there has been a 109 mm increase in the length and 100 mm in the wheelbase. With this, now the rear doors look a little longer.

Even Audi had launched a long wheelbase car earlier this year in the form of the Q5 LWB. It had an increase of 88 mm on the wheelbase, which translated to 110 mm of additional legroom. Interestingly, it measures the same as the new GLC L, that is 4.77 metres. However, for Mercedes-Benz hasn’t mentioned where the extra space has been used.

However, based on the images, we can be sure that the extra wheelbase has been utilised for the rear row. With the longer rear doors, the legroom at the rear has been increased. Moreover, vanity mirrors between the front and rear glass sunroof.

As for the mechanism, the Mercedes-Benz GLC L will draw its power from the same engine setup as the standard model. This means the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine will continue to come in three tunings. The smallest one would be on the 200 making 184 PS of power, while the mid-spec would be the 250, churning out 211 PS of power. However, the range-topper 300 4Matic will get 245 PS of power on the throttle. Power would be sent down to all the four wheels in all the trim levels.

Considering that this Mercedes-Benz GLC L will be more spacious and comfortable, it will cost RMB 10,000 more than the standard, roughly just under AED 5,300.
