Land Rover Defender Surges Into UAE Top 10 With A 105 Percent Jump

Abu Dhabi: The Land Rover Defender ranked sixth on the UAE's August sales chart, against fourteenth so far in 2026. Known for its rugged design and strong off-road performance, it recorded an impressive 105.1 percent increase year on year.

It shares the chart with Japanese pickups and large SUVs, such as the Toyota Hilux and Nissan Patrol, as well as Chinese models such as the Jetour T2. It is also the only British nameplate among the entries named in the report.

The Defender's entry variant starts at around AED 300,000, which is above the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser, both of which start from around AED 239,900 and rank ahead of it on the chart. Range-topping versions can climb well above AED 500,000, with higher-specification models costing considerably more.

A premium SUV in that range outselling mainstream favourites for even one month is worth noting on its own, particularly given the lineup's capability credentials.

The Defender models are engineered for a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg and a wading depth of 900 mm, specifications aimed at buyers who actually use the Hatta and Fujairah mountain routes rather than just the school run.

Who Sells It And Where

Land Rover's UAE distribution splits by region. Al Tayer Motors covers Dubai and the Northern Emirates, while Premier Motors handles Abu Dhabi separately.

Al Tayer is part of the wider Al Tayer Group, a privately held company operating across six GCC countries since 1979, and it also represents Ford, Jaguar, Ferrari, and Maserati in the UAE alongside Land Rover.

That breadth matters for a premium brand, since it means Defender buyers are served through a dealer network already built around luxury and performance ownership rather than one scaled primarily for volume sales.

What The Offers Include

Beyond the trade-in support and lease terms listed above, the Al Tayer campaign bundles a five-year service, warranty, and roadside assistance package. The trade-in offer explicitly excludes the high-performance OCTA and special edition models, suggesting it is aimed at moving standard volume trims rather than the range-topping variants.

Neither campaign has been publicly tied to the August sales increase, and the rise could equally reflect new variant availability, allocation changes, or simply stronger underlying demand. What can be said is that the incentives are real and active in the same period as the sales jump.

In Summary

The massive jump in sales for a premium SUV is a bigger move than it looks on paper, given where the Defender is on price against everything else in the Top 10.

The model's off-road credentials and Al Tayer's broader luxury dealer network both help explain why it can compete for attention even in a weak overall market.
