Breaking the Nurburgring record, Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S is the new ‘King of the Ring’

ABU DHABI: The Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S beats the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio to become the quickest production SUV to go around the 12.9-mile Nurburgring. The SUV has covered the entire lap in 7 minutes and 49.36 seconds. The previous record holder, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, has returned with a lap time of 7 minutes 51.7 seconds.

However, in May 2018, Mercedes-AMG had said that it is not concerned about the Nurburgring time records. Yet, the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door has turned out to be the “four-seater around the ‘Ring”. And now the manufacturer has come up to make the GLC63 S the fastest SUV around the North Loop.

On the driver seat of the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S, Markus Hofbauer, the development engineer of AMG was the person behind this success. And as for the carmaker’s words, Markus made the fastest lap time in his first attempt.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S is equipped with a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine, which is capable of pushing out a maximum of 502 hp power. It resembles the Stelvio QF which pumps out up to 505 hp of power. However, the SUV is capable of churning out up to 700 Nm of torque while the Alfa can only make a peak torque of 600 Nm with its 2.9-litre V6 engine.

In addition, the German SUV features AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive and air suspension. The SUV also gets the ceramic composite brakes and rear axle locking differential. The car is also 200 kgs heavier than the Alfa.

But the main query is that the record of Mercedes-AMG is in danger as its arch-rival, Lamborghini will definitely make attempts to be the manufacturer of the fastest SUV in the world. Porsche will not be a spectator as well, as it is expected that the fully-loaded Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid will be featured in the German track to break the record set by the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S.
