Toyota takes wraps off the Crown Sport SUV

ABU DHABI: With an impressive heritage spanning 15 generations and a 67-year history, the Toyota Crown is all set to embark on a new era, breaking away from its three-box traditional sedan design. Toyota plans to capitalise on the heritage and prestige of Crown with the addition of the all-new Crown Sport. 

In the past, luxury sedans dominated the Crown lineup. However, Toyota recognized the shift of modern buyers towards SUVs and introduced the Crown Sport.

The design of the five-seater Crossover seems to be inspired by the Crown sedan, with C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, lots of creases and cuts across its body shell, and wide fenders at the back and front. It has a wheelbase of 2.7 metres, and it measures five metres in length. At the back side, it has a faux skid plate, a high-set bumper with sharp creases, and a number plate housing. 

The high-end interior has piano black, wood, and leather finishes. It employs an island architecture and features Toyota's "sound-regulating ceiling tech" for a serene cabin environment. 

Toyota has not revealed any details about its powertrain, but it is anticipated that it will have a 2.4-litre petrol hybrid powertrain. The hybrid system testifies to Toyota's commitment to fuel efficiency and sustainability. Depending on the variant, the hybrid powertrain will offer multiple power outputs.

The Crown Sport SUV is currently available in Japan only. But the company is planning to introduce the SUV in other markets also.
