MG GT

The dynamic and sporty exterior design of the MG GT is a perfect match for the modern-looking interior design, which has been designed keeping the younger car-buying audience in mind. Buyers can choose from three interior colour themes – red and black, all-black and black and beige.

While the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel is the same as the one seen in many other MG cars, the full-TFT 12.3-inch instrument console behind it placed within a dedicated housing is something which looks new and fresh. The centre console has a wraparound, minimalist theme, accommodating a driver-facing large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a sleek panel of toggle-like switches below it.

The lower centre console of the interior of the MG GT consists of dual AC vents and the transmission lever with brushed aluminium surrounds. The cabin of this sedan is decently equipped with features like a power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, paddle shifters, cruise control, automatic climate control, a push start-stop button, a sunroof and an electric tailgate.

The overall design of the MG GT is meant to be a head turner right from the start, with its fastback-like sloping roofline and four-door layout making it a perfectly modern-looking grand tourer of today’s day and age.

There is a hint of aggressiveness in MG GT’s design, especially at the front, with the car having a Maserati-esque grille, which looks very sporty when viewed head-on. With a unique mesh design across its width, the grille has satin silver-themed extensions on the sides, which extend towards the L-shaped air curtains on the sides of the front bumper. An additional lower air dam below the grille and eye-brow-shaped all-LED headlamps complete the MG GT’s look at the front.

The side profile of the MG GT has the dramatically-sloping roofline as its main highlight, with the car having a proper four-door look of a sedan. The 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a lower ground clearance give it a planted and sporty stance. Also, the GT gets chrome surrounds for the window frames.

The dramatically-sloping rear roofline accommodates a steep windscreen at the back, with the roofline ending up in a wide-looking boot lid, which has an integrated spoiler. On the corners of the rear profile, the GT has sweptback LED tail lamps, while the extreme corners of the rear bumper have large C-shaped air curtains. The GT comes with dual exhaust pipes, one each on both corners.

For a driving experience as dynamic as its design, the MG GT comes with a slightly stiff suspension setup comprising Macpherson struts at the front and a torsional beam at the rear. The low ground clearance of 145mm further gives it a planted stance, which aids in its cornering and straight-line stability.

The MG GT is available with two engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The naturally-aspirated version produces 118 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque and is offered only in the STD variant with the 8-speed CVT. On the other hand, the turbocharged version churns out 173 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and is available in both COM and LUX variants with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The list of safety features offered in the MG GT includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, hill hold assist, 360-degree parking camera, lane departure warning, front collision warning, electronic parking brake and tyre pressure monitoring system.

While the overall dynamic and aggressive fastback-like design of the MG GT is good enough to sign the cheque in its favour, there’s more to this four-door sedan, with impressive performance and dynamic handling being its additional fortes.
