Toyota Crown Hybrid

On the inside, the Toyota Crown has a dual-tone black and beige finish for the cabin which looks futuristic and is tech-laden to the T. There are a host of layers that make the cabin look visually dramatic, with the essence of luxury all over it. 

Behind the bulky-looking T-themed three-spoke steering wheel with the iconic ‘Crown’ logo in the middle, the Toyota Crown gets a massive panel that stretches towards the upper centre console. It houses a large full-TFT instrument console behind the steering wheel and a large-sized 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the panel at the top of the centre console. The corners of the dashboard get asymmetric AC vents finished in a theme of black and come with contrast bronze accents, which can also be seen on the steering wheel, lower centre console and around the button consoles on the door pads. 

The lower centre console in the cabin here gets sleek AC vents and buttons for automatic climate control in the upper housing and the horizontal panel with transmission lever and buttons for various functions in the lower part. The Crown is loaded with features like a panoramic sunroof, leather seats with heating and ventilation functions, powered front and rear seats with recline functions, powered sunshade and adjustability for the steering wheel, ambient lighting, head-up display, wireless charger, 11-speaker JBL audio system and more. 

Compared to the Japan-spec Toyota Crown, this all-new iteration on sale in the UAE and many other global markets now is a drastically-changed model. By Toyota standards, the Crown is an unconventional design, which looks radical bold for a flagship sedan.

At the front, the Toyota Crown has a well-sculpted bonnet, which flows towards the sleek-looking fascia, comprising of a thin strip of daytime running LED stretching from end to end across the car’s width. The angular and beautiful-looking headlamps are all LED units, while the front bumper here looks massive and aggressive with the large air dam comprising of triangular inserts within it and gloss black surrounds.

The curves of the bonnet flow well towards the side profile, with the Toyota Crown having smooth front and rear fenders. For a sedan, the mouldings over the rounded wheel arches and bottom of the door panels look unconventional, and so do the fastback-styled raked windscreen and bulge over the rear fenders. The premium essence of the Crown is further amplified by the chrome finish on the upper window frame and door handles, door-mounted rearview mirrors and 21-inch machined alloy wheels. 

The Toyota Crown has a stubby-looking boot lid which looks dynamic due to the sloping rear windshield. The LED tail lamps, housed in a rounded rectangular on the rear edges of the fender, are connected by an LED light bar across the boot’s width, which is also get accompanied by a layer of faux metallic finish with vertical slats all over it.

The party trick of the driving experience of the Toyota Crown is its adaptive variable suspension, which makes the overall ride quality calm and composed. There are four drive modes on offer – eco, normal, sport and sport+ - all of which offer a personalized driving experience depending on the driver’s preference. 

Both the variants of the Toyota Crown source their power from a petrol-hybrid powertrain, which is a combination of a petrol engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. While the 2.4-litre petrol engine develops 270 PS of power and 460 Nm of torque, the motor generates 82 PS of power and 292 Nm of torque. In the combined mode, this powertrain claims 345 PS of power, with a 6-speed automatic transmission channelling the power produced to the four wheels via an e-four all-wheel drive system. While the Crown claims a 0-100 kmph timing of 5.8 seconds, the fuel efficiency claimed by this sedan is 18 kmpl. 

Packed with safety features to the brim, the Toyota Crown gets a data communication module, powered trunk opener, pre-collision system, dynamic cruise control, automatic high beam, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, ABS, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, electronic parking brake, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, eight airbags, front and rear parking sensors and 360-degree parking camera.
