Suzuki ends the production of Jimny and Swift Sport in the UK

ABU DHABI: It is a challenging and costly process for automakers to update cars to meet newer emission standards. This often requires a balance between expenses and profitability. Due to these challenges, Suzuki has decided to cease the production of four of its cars the Swift Sport, Swace, Ignis, and Jimny in the UK.

The zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate issued by the UK government requires carmakers to increase electric car sales significantly in the future, prompting the shift of Suzuki in its vehicle lineup.

In the next few months, Suzuki will phase out the Jimny and Swift Sport from UK showrooms if dealer stocks end. The Jimny, solely available as a two-seat commercial vehicle in Europe since 2020, will also draw to a close. Additionally, Suzuki will end the production of the Swace and Ignis.

These models will pave the way for a new electric vehicle that is expected to be a small SUV. The new EV will be based on the eVX concept and is anticipated to debut in the second half of 2025.
Suzuki's upcoming eVX will have a dual-motor AWD configuration. It will also be equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack. On a full charge, the new EV is expected to deliver up to 550 km.

In the UAE, Suzuki currently offers Swift, Jimny 5-door, Fronx, and Baleno and the automaker will continue their production in the future, unlike the UK market.
