Smart Mobility International (SMI), the sole distributor of AVATR electric vehicles in the UAE, is all prepared to introduce Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs) in the country later this year. This development will boost SMI's current portfolio of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), providing customers with a more flexible electric driving option.

AVATR 07: A New Era in Electric Mobility

For the first time, the new AVATR 07 model will feature the KUNLUN range-extending technology, which essentially combines a fully electric drivetrain with a compact petrol-powered generator. This system enables the vehicle to charge its battery on the go, reducing dependency on external charging infrastructure.

According to Moutaz Louis, CEO of SMI, as the demand for electric vehicles grows, it's essential to consider how they fit into daily life. Drivers, especially those who commute long-distance or live in areas with limited charging infrastructure, are given the flexibility and range confidence they require by REEVs.

Significance of REEVs in UAE

The launch of REEVs is particularly significant, given the country's unique topography. In areas where charging infrastructure is limited or for drivers who frequently travel long distances, REEVs are considered a practical alternative to BEVs, which are ideal for urban areas with reliable charging access.

Supporting a National Vision

SMI's decision to expand its portfolio to include REEVs aligns with the UAE's goal of having 50 per cent of its vehicles electric by 2050. The company is committed to providing a range of electric mobility options to cater to different driving patterns and lifestyles. To support this goal, SMI is also investing in a dedicated NEV service centre and multi-brand NEV showroom, set to launch in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
