NIO’s Power Swap Station, which was unveiled at Yas Marina Circuit in February 2025, offers a fully automated system where users don’t even need to leave the car.

The EV parks itself, swaps the battery, and performs a full diagnostic on the key systems of the vehicle. This process boosts safety and reliability by ensuring that every battery is in optimal condition.

The Power Swap system is a direct answer to the inefficiencies that come with conventional charging. A standard 100-kWh battery typically takes:

• 8 hours on 11kW AC.
• 2 hours on 50kW DC.

NIO’s battery swap cuts this down to just 3 minutes, meaning it saves up to 99% of time. In terms of energy output, they've already delivered 1,749 kWh via swaps, which would take 15 hours with a 120kW DC charger, but only 1.4 hours through NIO’s solution.
