Ceer Reveals Its First Electric Cars: What Saudi Arabia's New EV Brand Means for UAE Buyers

Dubai: Saudi Arabia just took its biggest step yet toward building its own car industry. On 21 September 2026, the homegrown brand Ceer showed the world its first two electric vehicles at an event in King Abdullah Economic City, with the UAE expected to get them from 2028. What Makes the Exobot Different

The design leans heavily into a futuristic look, and Ceer's CEO Jim DeLuca has openly compared it to cars from the sci-fi film "Tron." The upward-opening gullwing doors are the most obvious talking point, but the more interesting engineering choice is the missing B-pillar. 

Ceer has removed the structural pillar between the front and rear doors and relies on high-strength materials instead. Foxconn built the electrical architecture, while BMW handled the engineering side. That is a serious list of partners for a brand this young.

Why This Matters for UAE Buyers

The UAE is usually one of the first GCC markets any new regional brand chases after its home launch, so do not be surprised if Exobot shows up here not long after the Saudi rollout. More brands competing for buyers usually means sharper pricing and better service packages, which is good news either way.

That said, a new brand also means an unproven service network and unknown running costs, at least early on. The Bigger Picture: Saudi's Auto Ambitions

Ceer is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and Foxconn, backed by serious oil wealth and built as part of the kingdom's plan to reduce its dependence on oil revenue. It is not the country's first attempt at a domestic auto industry. A proposed Jaguar Land Rover factory was abandoned over a decade ago, and Toyota walked away from a Saudi deal in 2019 over labour costs. 

This time, Ceer says it is moving carefully, expanding into nearby markets from 2028 and across the wider Middle East and North Africa only by 2034. DeLuca has been blunt about the risk, pointing to EV startups like Fisker and Lordstown that failed after moving too fast.
