Subaru unveils 2025 Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan

ABU DHABI: The upcoming Subaru Forester Hybrid’s first images have been revealed in spy photographs, but it is a bit overshadowed by the new Crosstrek Hybrid. The Forester Hybrid is all set to be launched this December in Japan and is anticipated to have a next-generation hybrid system that significantly enhances performance and fuel efficiency. 

With the recent advancements in technology, Subaru wants to offer a more eco-friendly option without making any compromises on capability.

The eco-friendly powertrain boasts a 2.5-litre newly developed boxer engine with 158 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. It has been mated with a 1.1 kWh rear-mounted lithium-ion battery. 

This system comes with two electric motors: a traction motor and a motor generator delivering 118 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. The traction motor plays the role of the main power source in diverse driving scenarios and for short distances may enable exclusive EV mode.

In the new Crosstrek Hybrid, Subaru has maintained its tradition of all-wheel-drive with a mechanical setup that differs from the rear eAxle of Toyota. This "strong hybrid" boosts fuel efficiency by 20%, allowing for a range that exceeds 621 miles (1,000 km). This model will also come with an AC100V/1500W outlet to power campsite equipment.

In Japan, the Crosstrek Hybrid will be offered in two variants. The entry-level model comes with e-Boxer badging, a two-tone interior, 18-inch aluminum wheels, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. 

The top-spec EX version offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an EyeSight system with Traffic Jam Assist and Active Lane Change Assist, and GPS navigation.

In Japan, reservations for the Crosstrek Hybrid are open now. Those who reserve early will get an exclusive Crosstrek-branded portable freezer/refrigerator as a bonus.
