Citroen C5 Aircross

Cabin

Another key aspect that differentiates the C5 from its rivals is the cabin. Get inside, and you feel it is quite spacious, something most buyers would welcome. When it comes to design, there is a lot that feels premium, and attention to detail is evident. Like the C-Zen Lounge dashboard, it is built around a 13-inch vertical waterfall touchscreen. There is a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included from the entry variant.

On the Plus variant, the screen is upgraded to carry 3D navigation and a bundled Connect Plus subscription. This clearly adds real-time traffic, parking availability, and geofencing on top of the standard setup. Then the ambient interior lighting extends to eight colors on the Plus, layered across the dashboard, tweeters, and front door panels. The steering-wheel gearshift paddles are fitted across the range, giving manual control over the automatic gearbox when a driver wants it.

The gear selector is mounted on a raised bridge console with a rotary dial instead of a conventional lever, freeing up the storage space underneath.

Front Seat and Rear Seat

• Advanced Comfort seats are fitted across both variants, using high-density foam with extra thickness for long-distance comfort
• 6-way manual front seats on the You, up to an 8-way manual driver's seat on the Plus
• Height-adjustable driver's seat included from the entry You, not reserved for the range-topper
• Rear bench with a reclining backrest and armrest fitted on the Plus
• Center console armrest fitted as standard on both variants

The seat foam itself is the bigger change between trims here, not the adjustment range, since both remain manually operated.

Climate Control

Automatic dual-zone air conditioning is standard on the You, with the Plus extending to a fuller version of the same system. Citroën calls for extended automatic dual-zone air conditioning.

Storage

• Cup holders up front, plus a bottle holder built into the door design
• Center console armrest with storage beneath, standard on both variants
• An accessory power outlet fitted as standard, useful for anything that doesn't charge over USB
• Rear seat center armrest added on the Plus, absent on the You

Storage stays modest, not expansive, in line with a cabin built around comfort features over outright practicality.

Charging

Wireless smartphone charging is fitted only on the Plus. You don't get it on the lower You variant, which may feel like a downgrade to some buyers.

Boot Space

The C5 comes with 580 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place, one of the more generous figures in this segment, and enough for a family's luggage. Slide the rear seats fully forward, and that number climbs to 720 litres; fold them flat, and you are looking at 1,630 litres of total load space. A full-size spare wheel, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher come standard, covering the practical essentials for longer UAE road trips beyond the boot itself.

Being a European brand, safety seems to be a key focus area. Citroën builds the You's safety case around the driver, passenger, and front-side airbags, plus curtain airbags, backed by ABS, ESP, and hill hold assist as standard.

• Traction control and tyre pressure monitoring are fitted as standard on both variants
• Rear parking sensors with a 180-degree rear-view camera are included on the base variant.
• Front and rear parking sensors with the same 180-degree camera is upgraded on the Plus
• Cruise control with a speed limiter on the You, replaced by adaptive cruise control with stop and go on the Plus
• Electronic parking brake fitted as standard across the range
• Proximity keyless entry and start added exclusively on the Plus
• Auto-dimming interior and rear-view mirrors fitted on the Plus, cutting glare from following headlights at night

The move from a speed-limiter cruise system to full adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go marks the single biggest safety-relevant jump between the two variants, ahead of any single item on the equipment list.

Front

At the front, the main attraction is the Citroën Matrix LED headlights. They anchor the nose on both variants, running a three-point light signature, a brand carries across its current range. Then the wide front aero bumper and integrated LED daytime running lights round out a face that reads calmer than most rivals in this segment. This keeps with the brand's comfort-led design approach. The rain-sensing wipers are fitted as standard, cutting in without the driver needing to adjust a setting as the weather changes.

Side Profile

Look at it from any angle, and you can't miss the bold creases. These actually provide a smoother, more resolved shape than the outgoing C5 Aircross, with dark-tinted rear windows fitted as standard on both variants. This is where the SUV actually looks much different from most rivals in this segment. Those French design elements clearly show up in the proportions.

The SUV is a decent size given this segment's needs. With a length of 4,500 mm and a width of 2,099 mm (including mirrors), on a 2,730 mm wheelbase, a footprint that puts it close to the Renault Koleos and Toyota RAV4, it competes locally. The door mirrors are power-adjustable on the You, while the Plus gets electrically foldable units with a welcome light that switches on as the driver approaches.

Alloy Wheels

The wheel sizes are different for each variant. The starting You variant gets rides on 18-inch CARBON alloy wheels. On the top-end Plus, you get a higher 19-inch zircon diamond-cut design that fills the arches more fully. Interestingly, both are Citroën-exclusive designs, carrying the sharp, faceted look the brand has used across its recent launches.

Rear

Move to the back, and you’ll see a design that integrates perfectly with the overall car. Nothing feels out of place. The Citroën fits a rear spoiler as standard on the You, with the Plus adding a Design Pack that brings Gloss Black bumper decor front and rear, along with a Satin Chrome front blade. There is a shark fin antenna and integrated tail lamps that complete a rear end that skips the heavy cladding look many rivals still lean on.

Colors

• White
• Green
• Black
• Red
• Grey
• Blue

Right now, there are about six exterior colour options available for the C5 Aircross, spanning white, green, black, red, grey, and blue tones.

City Performance

A complete city SUV, the C5 is perfect for your daily commute or even family driving. There are a lot of features that make your driving a real pleasure and fun for the most part.

• With the Advanced Comfort suspension's hydraulic bump stops, they iron out the small vertical jolts that usually pass straight through to the cabin
• The 180-degree rear camera on both variants gives a wide enough view to judge the tail without guesswork
• Easing over a speed hump inside a quiet neighbourhood, the soft-tuned front end absorbs the impact before much of it reaches the seat
• Waiting through stop-start traffic, the automatic dual-zone climate control keeps front and rear cabin temperatures running independently without input

Highway Performance

• Climbing onto the E11 toward Abu Dhabi, the engine's 240 Nm arrives low enough in the rev range that overtaking rarely needs a downshift
• At higher speeds, it steers quite well, with the suspension setup keeping the body at ease with a lot of control, though you don't necessarily feel the sportiness that usually comes with it
• Covering the long stretch, the 53-litre tank and decent mileage combined rating should clear a full round trip with room to spare
• Holding a steady pace on E611 toward Sharjah, front-wheel drive should put the 180 hp down cleanly with no noticeable torque steer under normal throttle

Ride and Handling

The same features that help with good city and highway driving also determine the quality of the ride and ease of handling.

• For example, crossing an uneven patch, the dual progressive hydraulic bump stops smooth out sharper inputs that would otherwise crash through
• Turning into a roundabout, the softer suspension tune trades outright cornering sharpness for a settled, composed feel through the wheel
• When braking hard from speed on an interchange, the pedal offers a progressive, easy-to-modulate bite, not an abrupt grab near the top of travel
• Overall, navigating a rough stretch of unpaved shoulder outside Hatta, the suspension's comfort bias shows its limits on sustained washboard surfaces. This gives up some sharpness for the ride quality Citroën leads with.

It is available in two variants in the UAE. Both of them share the powertrain. So the real choice is between features.

You variant is the starting point of the SUV. Priced at AED 106,999, it comes with a full 1.6-litre turbo engine and automatic gearbox alongside 18-inch alloy wheels. In terms of features, there are advanced comfort seats, a 13-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a core safety package that includes curtain airbags and hill hold assist.

Plus is the top-end model, starting at AED 116,999. With that extra premium price, you get 19-inch zircon diamond-cut alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and proximity keyless entry. Then there are front parking sensors to go with the rear set and a fuller touchscreen with 3D navigation and a bundled Connect Plus subscription.

Zigwheels Recommendation

It's not a very difficult job to choose between the two. If you want the C5 Aircross's comfort-led drive and core equipment without paying for extras they may not use, stick with the You, since its safety package and touchscreen already cover the essentials.

However, anyone drawn to adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, or the sunroof should move up to the Plus, where the AED 10,000 step buys a much fuller equipment list and not just cosmetic changes.

First things first, this mid-size SUV segment is intensely competitive in the UAE. The reason is simple: it is popular among buyers, and top brands offer compelling choices. The C5 Aircross faces stiff competition, but it has the qualities to attract buyers in this segment.

It largely leans on comfort as its defining trait, and that shows in the details: Advanced Comfort seats with extra foam thickness and a patented hydraulic suspension setup, which are few rivals at this price that can match.

The powertrain is also quite good for UAE driving conditions, with enough power and torque for daily use, even if outright sportiness was never the point.

Against rivals like the Renault Koleos and Toyota RAV4, it matches them on power and standard equipment, while adding a design language neither rival offers. However, the two-variant range and unconfirmed boot figure leave real questions for buyers who plan around cargo space.

This SUV was built and assembled in France, not the usual Asian production base most rivals share; the C5 Aircross carries a manufacturing edge of its own. The C5 Aircross is worth a serious look for those who prioritise a settled ride and a distinct cabin over top-notch practicality.
