2026 Lexus RZ Revealed – Promises Solid Power Boost and Improved Range

Lexus is making big moves in the electric vehicle market, and the new 2026 Lexus RZ shows this clearly. The updated EV offers a strong increase in power for buyers in the U.S. However, one feature that grabbed attention, the yoke steering wheel, won't be available in the American version anytime soon.

Still, some features may stay exclusive to other markets for now. The RZ aims to compete well by blending luxury with improved driving features, but the yoke steering wheel remains a highlight that’s yet to arrive in the U.S.

Power Boost Across the Lineup

A key update for 2026 is the new RZ 550e F Sport version. It packs 402 hp with its dual-motor setup. This is a big increase from the RZ 450e’s 308 hp. The new model can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric SUVs in its segment.

All 2026 RZ models now have a bigger 77 kWh battery, replacing the older 71.4 kWh pack. This improves range and overall performance. The RZ 350e is expected to travel as far as 575 km on a full charge, based on WLTP estimates. The RZ 500e and 550e F Sport will have slightly lower ranges but still striking numbers.

No Yoke Steering Yet

The new RZ features an advanced steer-by-wire system and a special yoke steering wheel in some markets. However, Lexus has confirmed that the U.S. version will keep the regular round steering wheel for now.

Steer-by-wire technology removes the direct connection between the steering wheel and the front tires. This allows for faster and smoother steering changes. Further, the yoke adds a futuristic look inside the cabin. However, Lexus is still listening to customer feedback before deciding whether to offer it in more regions or not.

Styling and Interiors

The RZ 550e F Sport catches the eye with its bold black accents across. It features unique front and rear moldings that give it a sharper look. The car also sports 20-inch wheels designed for better aerodynamics. The F Sport grille adds an elegant touch to the front. A new exclusive color called Wind is now available, giving the vehicle a fresh, stylish appearance.

The RZ's interior continues to carry forward the sporty look with blue-accented Ultrasuede trim, aluminum pedals, and a patterned center console. Lexus adds to its "Time in Design" lighting idea by introducing animated shadow lighting on the door panels. This light changes gradually over time, adding a sense of movement and mood to the cabin.

Interactive Manual Drive – More Engaging Performance

The 2026 RZ introduces the new “Interactive Manual Drive,” which is quite a surprise. This feature simulates an eight-speed manual gear shift with paddle shifters. It even produces engine sounds to make the experience more real. The system is fully electric, but it gives drivers the feeling of shifting a traditional stick.

This is designed for electric vehicle drivers who want a more fun and sportier ride. It offers an experience like driving a car with a real gearbox, even though the vehicle runs on batteries. It’s perfect for those who miss the feel of old-fashioned driving but prefer going electric.

Enhanced Charging Capability

The 2026 Lexus RZ gets a big boost in the charging department. Every trim is now compatible with the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which allows charging at Tesla Superchargers. It also includes an 11-kilowatt onboard AC charger, up from the previous 7-kilowatt system. During ideal conditions, a DC fast charger can fill the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.
