The Rolls-Royce Cullinan will come with a tailgate seating

ABU DHABI: Tailgates are seriously underrated. They allow parents to sit in the open without carrying extra chairs, after dropping their children off for soccer practice. There is something charming about this option that anyone can appreciate. Companies like Bentley and Land Rover understand this and provide appropriate options in the Bentayga and the top-of-the-line Range Rover respectively. Now, Rolls-Royce has decided to join their ranks.

Rolls-Royce has revealed that the Cullinan will have tailgate seating. And as you can see from the picture, you don’t need to sit on the tailgate itself like some peasant. There are seats that look like laptops and open automatically at the touch of a button. They are also mounted on revolving mounts that rotate as the seats open. There is even a cocktail table that rises between the two seats, where you can keep your caviar or whatever rich people eat. The back of the seats is covered in luxurious leather as you would expect. Rolls-Royce’s marketing literature calls it the “Cullinan Viewing Suite” and suggests enjoying “the world’s most breathtaking vistas” or even “a sports event”, from their perch.

Speaking of marketing, you can’t actually see the Cullinan in the picture because it is not quite ready for launch just yet. Going by the tailgate, the 2016 Bentley SUV seems to be up for some serious competition. Although Rolls-Royce would like to remind you that the Cullinan is not an SUV. They claim that it falls into the category of “Effortless Everywhere”.  They also promise that it will have a high ride height and good off-road ability.

A similar option for the Bentayga, known as the “Mulliner Hamper”, costs around AED 117000. There is no word on pricing of this option, let alone the car. But the Bentayga’s option is almost pedestrian compared to the Cullinan with its leather-wrapped slide out bench. So, we can safely expect it to be much more expensive. Not that people looking to buy this car would ever worry about the price in the first place. Nevertheless, it has to be one of the most desirable options for the car.
