Toyota Hilux: Features explained

Toyota Hilux: Features explained

There are two pickup trucks that Toyota has got in its product catalog for the Middle East market. One is the Toyota LC Pickup and the other one is the Toyota Hilux. While the LC is sturdier and more affordable, it comes with very minimal features. And to fill that gap, Toyota has the Hilux in place. The all-new Toyota Hilux is among the best pickup trucks available in the region. It tries to give a feeling of premiumness along with a sense of practicality. The Toyota Hilux price starts at AED 77,700. And for that price, you get many features. Today we are going to have a look at some of them.

Design and styling

Hilux Side

The Toyota Hilux is quite a handsome vehicle. It isn’t something that will make you go weak on your knees, but it has been really nicely designed. The entire truck looks to be very well proportioned. The front of the Hilux gets a pair of large halogen headlamps that promise to offer a good throw during the dark. These headlamps are joined together by three striking horizontal chrome slats of the front grille. And there is a decent use of chrome around the fog lamp area. This makes the Hilux that much more premium-looking and sturdy.

As we mentioned, the side view of the Hilux gives you a clearer view of appreciating the proportioned design of the vehicle. The rear end of the Hilux gets a couple of vertically stacked tail light clusters. These are decent in size and offer a good amount of visibility. The rear bumper doubles up as a step up unit to climb onto the cargo bay.

Interior features

Hilux Cabin

The interior space in the Hilux is quite decent in both the single and double cab variants. Apart from the space, the theme used is inviting. The use of maroon-ish color on the seats and on a few parts of the dashboard helps to keep the premiumness of the vehicle intact.

There are various practical storage spaces like front and rear cup holders, bottle holders in all the doors, etc. Toyota has also provided an upper box on the dashboard that features integrated AC vents to keep your beverages at their right temperatures. In the double cab model, there are independent AC vents for the rear passengers. This is a welcoming feature that shows Toyota really looked into the comfort of all the occupants of the car. The rear seats have the 60/40 split function which allows you to have more space for storing luggage.

The instrument cluster of the Hilux has two main dials that display the tachometer and the speedometer. There is even a small MID (multi-information display) sandwiched between the two main dials. The MID shows various necessary information of the vehicle to the driver and is very useful.

Engine and performance

Hilux Engine

For the 2019 model, Toyota has altered the available engine options. Unlike before, now the
Toyota Hilux specs have only a single engine option. It is a 2.7L 4-cylinder, 16-valve Dual VVT-i petrol engine with DOHC. Toyota has tuned this engine to produce a max power of 164 hp at 5200 revs and generate a peak torque of 244 Nm that kicks in at 4000 revs. There are both 4x2 and 4x4 variants available. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Safety features

Hilux Safety

Toyota has provided a good number of safety features with the Hilux. These aren’t many and not very hi-tech or advanced, but some of the basic ones that we expect to see in most of the cars. The list of safety features include Anti-lock brake system (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic brake force distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Assist Control, Trailer Sway Control, Tire-Inflation Pressure Warning, Emergency Brake Signal, Dual Airbags, Rear fog lamp, Rearview camera, and a light control system with follow me home function. Keep in mind that these features will also vary depending on which variant of the Hilux you are considering.

So these were some of the features of the 2019 Toyota Hilux. If we missed any or if you have a feature that’s your favorite, do let us know in the comments.
