The new-generation GWM Wingle 5 debuted in 2021 and the car has mostly remained unchanged throughout. It's mounted on a variable cross-section, high-strength frame structure. The midsized pickup truck sports a bold grille that's a common design language for most vehicles in this segment. The grille gets three horizontal slats. The manufacturer's logo is positioned on the top-centre of the grille. Two big halogen headlights along with daytime running lights (DRLs) flank the grille. The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 is available only in the single-cab version in two-wheel-drive. The doors are large and allows easy entry and exit. Both sides get body-coloured mirrors with black door handles. The GWM Wingle 5 runs on 16-inch steel wheels. The vehicle's backend gets vertically stacked halogen taillights and fog lights. There's nothing much exciting about the pickup's design and it's mostly focussed on utility. 

The GWM Wingle 5 gets great loading capacity, courtesy the 2,280mm long, 1,520 mm wide, and 460 mm high cargo body. There's an exterior rope lug to allow easy towing. 

The interior of the GWM Wingle 5 is practical. Premium bits are minimal as this is one of the most affordably priced pickup trucks available in the Emirates. A lot of hard plastics have been used in the cabin to enhance durability. The seats are upholstered in fabric or faux leather. The door trim panel gets a leather-grain finish. The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 gets a 4.0-inch multimedia music unit connected to a four-speaker audio system. There's a storage case under the armrest. Other cabin features include an ashtray, a lighter, and a cupholder. The polyurethane steering wheel gets audio and telephone controls. The driver's information panel gets large analogue dials that are easy to read. The manual air-conditioning is powerful and cools the cabin in minutes. 

How spacious is the GWM Wingle 5?

With 5,035 mm length, 1,720 mm width, and 1,690 mm height, the 2024 GWM Wingle 5 is a fairly spacious singe-cab pickup truck. The cabin can accommodate three adults with sufficient legroom. There's no dearth of headroom in the boxy cabin. The hydraulic power steering lacks telescopic function but it's easy to find a comfortable driving position. The driver's seat is manually height-adjustable. The 178mm ground clearance and the wide windscreen allow good visibility of the road.  

The suspension system of the 2024 GWM Wingle 5 is on the harder side which leads to a stiff ride quality. The pickup is largely meant for urban commuting and doesn't have much off-road capability. Some of the bumps are felt inside the cabin. Noise insulation is good but not the best in class.  

What engine and transmission options are available?

The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 is hauled by a four-cylinder, 2.4-litre petrol engine that produces 125 PS/200 Nm. The motor is mated to a five-speed manual. The powertrain is pretty much effective though it seems to struggle when the cargo bed is loaded and the cabin is fully occupied. But it still manages to do the job. There's a typical rattling sound when the pickup is on the move with an empty cargo bed. 

The steering wheel of the GWM Wingle 5 is well-balanced and instantly responsive. It makes overtaking on city roads easy. Turning sharp corners doesn't require much effort. There's a bit of a body roll that's particularly felt when the cargo bed is empty. On highways, the 2024 GWM Wingle 5 performs as an able cruiser.

The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 has a claimed mileage of 13 kmpl. City mileage is around 10 kmpl. Pickup trucks aren't known to be fuel efficient and the GWM Wingle 5 is no different. The mileage returned by pickups on the cargo being carried.

The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 comes with a number of safety equipment. It includes antilock braking, reverse radar, speed-sensing central door lock, dual airbags, electrically height-adjustable headlamps, and a tyre pressure monitor. The 2024 GWM Wingle 5 faces competition from Nissan Patrol, Isuzu D-Max, and the Toyota Hilux Adventure. The Nissan Patrol is the closest competitor of the GWM Wingle 5.
