Range Rover and Range Rover Sport assembly begins in India

ABU DHABI: The Jaguar Land Rover group recently announced that the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will be produced in India, marking the first time any Range Rover model will be manufactured outside the UK. These luxury SUVs will be designed exclusively for the Indian market, aiming to reduce wait times for Range Rover's expanding customer base in the country.

Previously, both these flagship SUVs were produced solely in the UK at the Solihull Plant, a site identified by Jaguar Land Rover as "the global home of Range Rover." From now on, select trims will additionally be manufactured in Pune, India from knock-down kits.

Tata Motors, JLR’s parent company, owns the Pune plant. It has remained the production center for ten other JLR products targeting Indian car enthusiasts, beginning with the Land Rover Freelander. Currently, it manufactures the Range Rover Velar and Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Jaguar F-Pace.

In India, the Range Rover is available in two variants: the HSE, equipped with a 3.0-litre diesel engine that produces around 346 horsepower (258 kW / 351 PS), and the Autobiography, featuring a 3.0-litre gasoline engine that delivers around 393 horsepower (293 kW / 398 PS. Both variants are available in the long-wheelbase configuration. The starting price of the HSE is ₹236 Lakh (AED 1,157,600) and Autobiography is priced at ₹260 Lakh (AED 1,274,000).

In the UAE the Range Rover is available in 4 trims the HSE, SE, Autobiography, and SV. The Sport variant is available in SE, Autobiography, and HSE trims.
