NIO Unveils Three EV Brands at Shanghai Motor Show 2025

Abu Dhabi : NIO’s bold showcase at Shanghai Motor Show 2025 hints at a major expansion, unveiling three brands, new tech, and sustainable lifestyle projects without giving too much away.

• NIO showcased 11 models and 12 technologies across NIO, ONVO, and firefly brands.

At the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, NIO made a powerful statement by showcasing its three EV brands — NIO, ONVO, and firefly — together for the first time. Founder and CEO William Li called it a “year of technological harvest,” signalling a year full of major product launches and innovations.

The NIO stand drew big crowds with 11 models and 12 advanced technologies on display. According to Li, nine new models across the three brands will debut in 2025, ensuring a fresh launch every quarter and keeping the excitement high throughout the year.

Star Models and New Launches

Leading the presentation was the NIO ET9, a new smart electric flagship sedan. Visitors could see its SkyRide Full Active Suspension, steer-by-wire system, and even a “SkyRide Dance” live show. Updated versions of the ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 will arrive in Q2 2025, while the third-generation ES8 is expected later.

ONVO, NIO’s mid-range brand, launched the ONVO L90 SUV. Deliveries are scheduled for Q3 2025, with another model, the L80, set for a Q4 reveal. Firefly, NIO’s compact premium brand, launched its first model on April 19, aiming for deliveries by April 29. Firefly plans to expand into 16 countries as part of NIO’s goal to reach 25 markets.

Major Technologies Unveiled

A special technology section showed how far NIO’s engineering has come. Visitors saw:

• Shenji NX9031 smart driving chip.
• SkyRide active suspension technology.
• 900V high-efficiency electric drive system.
• 750kW NIO Power Charger 4.0.
• Fourth-generation battery swap station.

Two samples of the Shenji chip were displayed at the press conference. This chip powers the ET9 and will soon enhance the refreshed ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 models, boosting intelligent driving performance.

More Than Just Cars

NIO recreated its famous NIO House experience at the show, complete with a NIO Café, NIO Radio, and a user lounge, operated by over 260 volunteers. This immersive experience strengthened NIO’s image as a lifestyle brand, not just an automaker.

The company’s lifestyle wing, NIO Life, used the event to unveil new products under the BLUE SKY LAB Upcycling Project. They turn waste from vehicle manufacturing into stylish, sustainable goods. Firefly Life and ONVO Life also made their debut, each promoting values of family joy, sustainability, and personal freedom.

Vision for the Future

NIO’s seeds knowledge platform organised “Dialogue with the Future” roundtables during the event. These talks brought ET9 users and tech experts together to discuss future mobility trends.

The 2025 Shanghai Motor Show was not just about new cars for NIO. It was about showcasing a full ecosystem — combining cutting-edge vehicles, smart technologies, and sustainable lifestyles. As the brand eyes expansion into more countries, its ambitions are clearly bigger than ever.
