Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Mazda 6, and Lexus ES get 5-star safety

ABU DHABI: The ANCAP is definitely the most important benchmark when it comes to the safety system of any car. Hence, in order to get the best rating, the automakers have been very focused on this department. As a result, the newer cars or upgrades are picking up the perfect 5-star rating at the Euro NCAP.

 

The latest ones on the block to get the rating are the Mazda 6, Lexus ES, and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. In fact, the Mercedes performed the best in the test and was praised by the CEO of ANCAP, Mr James Goodwin. He had quoted that the A-Class does really well to offer an excellent safety all-around.

The Mercedes A-Class scored 96% for Adult Occupant Protection and 91% Child Occupant Protection. Besides this, it also received the highest rating for Vulnerable Road User Protection with a score of 92%.

 

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has a lot of amazing features like the presence of airbags for the side-chest protection, which extends to the rear seats. However, though this feature is standard in the Australasian region, the European countries have it as an option.

 

Moving forward, the Mazda 6 has grossed an impressive 95% for the Adult Occupant Protection. However, it faltered a little for smaller occupants at the rear row as the dummy’s pelvis slipped below the seatbelt. Hence, a little penalty was enforced here.

Finally, the Lexus ES, which scored a 91% for the Adult Occupant Protection, received a lot of praises for its amazing AEB (autonomous emergency braking). Hence, Mr Goodwin commented that the AEB for the ES was its strongest highlight as it could detect pedestrians and avoid accidents in every test, be it day or night. However, it was penalised for the same reason as the Mazda 6, that is, the submarining (small occupants slipping below the seatbelt).

This 5-star rating from the ANCAP applies to all the variants of the Mazda 6, Lexus ES300h and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class starting from August-September.
