New Mazda CX‑5 Teaser Shows Sleeker Styling

Mazda has announced the 2026 CX-5, set to arrive on July 10. This new model marks the start of its third generation, coming with big changes. The teaser indicates an updated exterior, improved interior layout, and the addition of hybrid power. 

Similar but striking exteriors

The design shows subtle changes but keeps its recognisable look. The front features slimmer, multi-level LED headlamps flowing into the grille. The grille itself is larger and more refined, framed with gloss black, giving it a sleek look. The styling ties in visually with bigger Mazda SUVs like the CX-60 and CX-80.

On the sides, the wheel arches are squared off, matching the look of Mazda's latest SUVs. They are paired with simple cladding, giving the vehicle a rugged yet refined feel. At the back, slim LED taillamps stretch across the width and echo the front lighting. The rear design has a clean tailgate and a smooth bumper to finish the look.

While the overall body shape stays the same, the new CX-5 has a longer wheelbase and a more vertical rear end. These changes promise more room inside the cabin.

Enhanced Interiors

The interiors of the new Mazda CX-5 are driver-focussed. It comes with a clean design with fewer buttons and easier-to-read screens. The infotainment and driver displays are likely to be inspired by the luxury CX-60 and CX-90 models. These might include a landscape touchscreen, a digital instrument panel, and a redesigned centre console. 

The interior materials have been upgraded with soft-touch plastics, leather trims, and new accents to give a more refined look. The higher roof and longer wheelbase should also improve comfort for rear passengers and make loading easier.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 model will be the first to offer a hybrid version of the CX-5. Mazda has developed its hybrid system, working with Toyota to create a mild-hybrid that can charge itself. The setup includes a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol unit and an electric motor, helping to boost fuel efficiency and cut emissions. 

A plug-in hybrid version will arrive in 2027, featuring Mazda’s new SkyActiv-Z engine. This engine aims to offer better fuel efficiency and performance. The petrol variants will also continue, with a 187-hp 2.5-liter engine and a turbocharged version producing 256 hp.
