Ford Bronco EV & PHEV Launched In China! UAE Launch Expected Soon

Abu Dhabi : The Ford Bronco SUV is expected to launch in the Chinese market by the end of 2025. 

• Both the EV & PHEV models derive design inspiration from the larger Bronco and Bronco Sport models.
• The cars will come with aspects like a large touchscreen and driver assistance features.
• The EV will get a 105.4 kWh battery with all-wheel drive. The EREV will be equipped with a 43.7 kWh battery with a rear-wheel drive system.

Ford has unveiled the Bronco New Energy, a new SUV tailor-made for the Chinese market. It comes in two versions: a fully electric model and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). This move is part of Ford’s ongoing effort to grow its portfolio of electric SUVs via its joint venture with Jiangling Motors.

Powertrains and Performance

The Bronco New Energy will be offered in two forms: a battery electric vehicle (EV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). Both are larger and heavier than the current Bronco and Bronco Sport models.

Fully Electric Version (EV): The EV features a 105.4 kWh BYD "Blade" LFP battery. It has dual motors: 130 kW at the front and 202 kW at the rear, giving a combined output of 331 hp. It is equipped with all-wheel drive. The estimated range is up to 650 km based on China’s CLTC cycle. 

The top speed of the SUV is rated at 170 kmph. The vehicle weighs 2,630 kg. Its dimensions are 5,025 mm long, 1,956 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.

Plug-In Hybrid Version (EREV): This model has a 43.7 kWh battery and comes with a dual motor setup. It can run up to 220 km on electric power alone. It features a 1.5-liter petrol engine that develops 145 hp. The front motor produces 174 hp; the rear one develops 241 hp. 

The total driving range is around 1,220 km. It offers all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive (depending on the version). The weight of the car is around 2,510 kg.

Design and Styling

The design combines elements from both the larger Bronco and the Bronco Sport. It has a boxy shape typical of off-road vehicles, with a spare tyre mounted on the tailgate. The rear door swings open from the side. 

Sensors on the front fenders and a LiDAR sensor on the roof hint at advanced driver assistance features. Ford also showed a version with a “Badlands” badge, which hints at off-road capability.

Interior Features

Ford has not given full details about the inside yet. However, images show a roomy cabin with a streamlined shape. There’s a large touchscreen at the centre for entertainment and controls. It’s likely to include more modern infotainment and driver assistance features. There are no specific details available on seats, upholstery, or storage space.

Safety Features

The SUVs features sensors and cameras, indicating advanced safety tech inside. These aspects could be emergency braking, lane keeping and blind-spot monitoring. Ford has not yet shared full crash test ratings or the complete list of safety features.

Will the Bronco EV Arrive in the UAE?

As demand for electric SUVs rises in the UAE, many local dealers are expected to bring in the new EV and PHEV Broncos. Early imports may start before Ford officially launches the model in the region. Prices are likely to fall in the range of AED 150,000 to AED 200,000.
