Volkswagen Tiguan Expert Review
Zigwheels team says
The Tiguan is a five-seater premium, all-rounder SUV that largely falls into the compact-to-midsize segment, depending on how one looks at it, which has been rapidly expanding in the UAE. Positioned between the T-Roc and the Touareg in Volkswagen’s SUV portfolio. This SUV is a desirable choice for customers looking for a refined, safe, and technically superior everyday car with an upmarket feel and not to mention the German engineering.
This third-generation Tiguan has been in the market for a while and received its last facelift in 2020, which indicates that we may see a mid-life revamp to this sleek SUV. As far as the Emirates market is concerned, the Tiguan has gained a considerable following among a wide range of buyers, ranking as one of Volkswagen’s top-selling SUVs. Highly admired for its striking design, superior driving dynamics, and cutting-edge technology among professionals and families.
Notably among used Volkswagen SUVs in the UAE, the Tiguan consistently ranks just behind the larger Touareg, which underlines its preference in new and pre-owned markets.
Interior
Design & Quality
The Tiguan interior is a mix of luxury, comfort and convenience. The design is functional, not too much overwork, but rather a minimalist dashboard with soft-touch plastics, leatherette or leather upholstery and metallic accents. A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (upgradable to 15 inches) and a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro make the cabin truly next-gen.
The feature, like ambient lighting with multiple colours, gives the cabin a charming touch. The built quality reflects the German touch, extremely solid, durable and can last long.
Front Seat
The front seats are supportive and comfortable, with ErgoActive seats (R-Line and Elegance) offering massage functions and heating/ventilation that help you tackle the hot days in the summer. We liked the driver-centric layout, with intuitive controls and a higher seating position, offering greater visibility and comfort, and this lowers your fatigue during long hours of driving. Power adjustment and memory function are provided to the driver's seat for personalisation.
Electronic Parking Brake
An electronic parking brake integrated with hill-start assist on the centre console helps in the ease of parking on inclines. A standard feature with most high-end cars helps in ease of driving and enhances confidence in tight spaces.
Rear Seat
The Tiguan's rear seat is spacious, comfortable for two adults over six feet, even with the panoramic sunroof. The sliding, reclining bench helps in high comfort on long trips, the seat material is of good quality, and you feel it during your time in the cabin. The sliding and reclining rear bench allows greater space to move around, which allows passengers to fine-tune their seating position for extra comfort on longer trips or may be expanded to expand boot space if necessary. The rear AC vents, USB-C ports, and wide-opening doors make travel with kids a lot convenient, something families will love. The main trade-off is the raised floor hump, which makes the middle seat less comfortable for adults, but families still find three-across seating just fine.
AC Vents
Three-zone climate control (standard on Elegance and R-Line) with rear vents is strong, and so the cabin gets cool in no time. So no matter what is outside, your car is always cool and comfortable.
Storage Options
To carry your variety of stuff, small and big, there is a spacious glovebox, easy to access, door-mounted bottle holders (up to 1-litre), a centre console with cupholders, and a rear armrest compartment. And the cabin in a way is qutie practical with decent storage.
Armrest
Front and rear centre armrests with cupholders aimed at offering that extra comfort when you’re in the car, driving for long hours. The padded armrests contribute to relaxed driving and a premium feel, though the rear armrest’s storage is modest, which is understandable.
Charging Options
The Tiguan keeps devices powered with two USB-C ports in the front, two in the rear, a 12V socket, and an optional wireless charging pad. Rear USB-C ports are a hit with passengers for connectivity on road trips.
Boot Space
The Tiguan has a 652-litre boot space and can expand to a massive 1,650 litres with the rear seats folded. And, that means the boot is quite suitable for daily needs, family trips, or camping gear, though it’s slightly smaller than the Honda CR-V’s. The height-adjustable boot floor and 40/20/40 split-folding seats let you adjust as per requirements.
Safety
The Tiguan earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating,
- 10 airbags, including for the driver, passenger, centre, rear and side.
- Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keep Assist
- Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection
- Blind-Spot Monitoring
- 360-degree camera
- Front and rear parking sensors with Park Assist
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Hill-Start Assist
Exterior
The Tiguan is a mixed bag, not that extraordinary but also not dull, rather quite contemporary. The redesigned aerodynamic, stylish LED lighting, and a sporty appearance attract attention. One key highlight is its vigorous yet body language appeals to those buyers who look for a practical SUV with a premium character.
It measures 4,539 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,662 mm in height, with a 2,681 mm wheelbase, and is slightly bigger than its predecessor; hence, it has a more spacious cabin and higher cargo capacity. The 159 mm ground clearance is just suitable for everyday driving needs across terrains in the UAE.
Front
The front consists of a wide, chrome-accented grille with a bright VW logo, flanked by IQ.Light LED matrix headlights with superior light assist. These headlights, coupled with bullet-shaped LED daytime running lights, bring in that additional element of distinctive design and fashion to the front of the car. The lower bumper has a honeycomb air dam and optional fog lamps, which lift the appearance and also provide excellent air for the engine to cool.
Side
From the side, the Tiguan’s curved lines and lively profile exhibit conviction. The alloy wheels in various sizes are sharp and enhance the overall look of the car. Silver roof rails and chrome window surrounds bring a premium touch, while the R-Line’s sporty bumpers and black accents confer an athletic persona.
Alloy Wheels
The Tiguan has various wheel sizes starting from 17-inch to 19-inch, depending upon the trims, with 215/65 on R17 tires and 235/50 R19 tires. The tires provide superior grip and style for active drives, also larger wheels enable slightly firming up the ride quality.
Rear
In the rear is a sleek LED taillight, and those animated graphics, a sporty roof spoiler, and a bumper with newly designed elements and chrome accents. The R-Line comes with a diffuser-style element, giving a more aggressive look. The rear wiper allows clear visibility in dusty or rainy conditions, and serves as a practical feature.
Colors
The 2025 Tiguan is available in nine single-tone colours in the UAE, including White, Pearl White, Deep Black, Pearl Black, Shadow Blue, Greyish Bronze, Silver Ice Metallic, Urano Grey, and new added options like Avocado Green Pearl, Ascot Grey and Monterey Blue Pearl.

City Performance
The Tiguan’s 1.4L TSI engine (Life and Life Plus) is well-tuned and refined for an extremely spirited performance with the responsive 7-speed DSG for city driving. The 2.0L TSI (Elegance and R-Line) is punchy and quite perfect for quick manoeuvres in heavy traffic. So essentially, both engines are highly efficient and known for their reliable performance.
Highway Performance
On highways, the Tiguan does an outstanding job as well, with the 2.0L TSI’s 200 hp (R-Line) giving robust acceleration whenever you overtake. The 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system (R-Line) improves stability; similarly, the 1.4L TSI is sufficient as well but might feel a little less responsive at high speeds.
Ride and Handling
This SUV undoubtedly is great to handle, which we experienced big time during our tests across driving conditions in the UAE. Be it city, highway or regular commute, the Tiguan never really shows any weakness in moving through challenging times. In fact, we are impressed with a balanced ride, with soft suspension on the Life trim nicely absorbing road conditions. The R-Line’s sporty build-up and bigger wheels enhance handling but firm up the ride, making it a real delight on twisty roads.
