Volkswagen Teramont Expert Review
Zigwheels team says
The Volkswagen Teramont full-size, three-row, 7-seater SUV which sits below the luxury Touareg in VW's portfolio, it is also known as Atlas in some global markets. Since it is a large, spacious SUV, it is most suitable for families who prefer a bigger car.
In the UAE, Teramont has earned a name for itself for its luxurious and roomy cabin, multipurpose profile, and German engineering that assures reliability. VW has given the SUV its latest facelift in 2024, and will continue to retail the same model for 2025. Presently, in its second generation, Teramont has become popular and gained quite a following and admiration in the Emirates. As it comes across as a lot safer, comfortable and all the right boxes for family use and for those who prefer a highly capable vehicle, both for city and highway use. It takes on bigger crossover SUVs like Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota Fortuner, and premium three-row offerings like the Audi Q7.
Interior
Design & Quality
Most of the buyers will get a positive surprise with the luxury interior. With the latest upgrade in 2024, you notice VW has provided premium materials like leatherette or leather seating, soft-touch plastics, and attractive chrome details, all of which add to the high-end feel of the cabin. Now you get a bigger 12-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital display, which brings the joy of easy access with a modern tech experience. The multi-colour ambient lighting further enhances the overall cabin atmosphere and you feel like you are in a luxury car.
The cabin is a genuine example of particularity aligning with comfort. Practicality meets comfort. The design layout is simple, looks clean, and the control panel is appropriate for easy usage. You do, however, see some lower door panels rely on harder plastics, which seems a compromise with quality; nevertheless, overall the quality is as good as one would expect and gives you confidence of durability.
Front Seat
The front seats come with a good amount of size and comfort with exceptional support for long drives. The higher trims get high-quality leather upholstery, heating, ventilation, and power adjustment with memory functions, which take care of ease of driving, comfort and also good access to all the controls. The higher seating position allows not just a commanding position but also provides greater visibility on the road and the surroundings.
Electronic Parking Brake
An electronic parking brake with hill-start assist makes parking on slopes. What is life easy is its quick, simple use that enhances overall confidence during tight spots.
Rear Seat
Teramont has been highly regarded by families largely due to its practicality and a lot of space. And, the rear seat is the best place to be in the SUV as it has a lot of comfort, with a spacious and sliding second row. The AC is rather effective, and the impressive third row, which can fit a mid-size adult, is something quite rare in the segment. Quite interestingly, the third-row legroom is not bad for short to medium trips for average-sized adults, considering the floor is slightly raised. You also feel the comfort of wide-opening doors and one-hand fold, which makes access effortless. While the second row’s centre seat isn’t the most comfortable for sizable adults due to a floor hump, this isn’t a deal breaker. But the Teramont offers a rare combination of practicality, great comfort and multipurpose use cases.
AC Vents
Another key aspect of a comfortable cabin, and here, the tri-zone climate control (standard on higher trims) helps keep the cabin cool for the driver, front passenger, and rear seats, with separate vents. During our test, it turned out the AC is quite powerful and the cabin gets cool in no time.
Storage Options
Given a three-row SUV, the cabin is spacious, which also means plenty of space to carry our stuff around. At the front, the bigger size glovebox is good for keeping your documents and other big items. The access is super easy and opens rather quickly. Then door pockets for 1-litre bottles, a centre console with cupholders, and a rear armrest with storage are other spaces enough for family stuff.
Armrest
Front and rear armrests with cupholders provide convenience during long drives and are comfortable to use with their larger size. The front armrest is padded and well-placed with enough space for relaxing during a drive; the rear is a little smaller but does the job.
Charging Options
Keeping your devices charged is taken care of by two USB-C ports on the front, two on the back, a 12V socket, and an optional wireless charging pad. At the rear, USB ports for the passengers.
Boot Space
Being a full-size, three-row SUV, what you get in the Teramont is generous space. The same is true with the boot, which measures 583 litres behind the third row, which appears to be right for a car of this size. And, you have the option of flattening the floor by folding the second and third row; in that case, the boots turn into a massive 1,571 litres of space. So, be it your everyday need or a large luggage space for occasional trips, the SUV takes care of all of it.
Safety
- Six airbags (driver, passenger, side, curtain)
- Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Change Assist
- Front Assist with pedestrian detection
- 360-degree camera
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Hill Assist
Exterior
The exterior can be summarised as bold, larger and contemporary styling. The new updates boost the SUV's premium image, largely due to the sharper, more sculpted design language adopted by Volkswagen designers.
The stylish LED lighting and new sporty elements such as larger wheels and a new rear lightbar further elevate the Teramont’s exterior look. The high proportions (5,097mm long, 1,990mm wide, 1,780mm tall, on a 2,980mm wheelbase) allow it a superb road presence and a large enough cabin, which directly appeals to families in need of a bigger car that is practical and also premium.
Front
At the front is visually appealing, defines a wide grille with triple chrome bars and the brightened VW logo, undoubtedly a signature feature for the facelifted model, and it looks beautiful at night, which makes it recognisable instantly. We also think the slim, L-shaped LED headlights and notable DRLs give it a fresh and modern effect. For higher trims like the Highline, you get a stylish IQ. Light HD matrix headlights, which have adaptive beam patterns that smartly respond to traffic and darkness, improve the safety significantly. Also, the sporty lower bumper with pronounced air vents and fog lamps makes the SUV rugged.
Side
Not much as far as the size profile, other than to say that it matches the overall design or exterior profile of the SUV. It certainly does appear rugged and strong, with the high bonnet, large windows, and chrome trim along the doors. Roof rails (silver or black) provide some elements of practicality for some additional gear during occasional trips. However, what is indisputable about the Teramont, with its size, it comes across as a big SUV, but at the same time, impresses with its ability to handle city traffic.
Alloy Wheels
Depending on the trims, the SUV has got 18/20/ and 21-inch alloy wheels across (265/45 R20 or 265/40 R21) tire sizes. And, these nicely designed alloys not only give the car a sporty and high-end style but also provide superb grip.
Rear
At the rear, the sleek LED taillights with animated graphics, a subtle spoiler, and a chrome-accented bumper make it quite attractive as well, upping the overall look of the SUV. The bold and sporty diffuser and dual exhaust tips show the extra features that give the car a better appeal. There is a rear wiper for you to keep the back windshield clean during dusty or rainy weather.
Colors
You get to choose the Teramont from seven available colours, including Pure White, Deep Black Pearl, Platinum Grey, Pyrite Silver Metallic, Tourmaline Blue, Aurora Red Chroma, and Nephrite Green Metallic.

In this variant, as the name suggests, a combination of value and premium touches with a focus on comfort and convenience. This experience is defined by features like AWD, the same powerful 2.0L engine, bigger 20-inch wheels, a seamless 12-inch touchscreen, and leatherette seats for a cosy experience. Zigwheels Recommendation: We recommend the Comfortline variant for most of the buyer profiles in the UAE. The reason is simple: you don’t spend much but get almost all that matters. The Comfortline tries to balance successfully between the most advanced features that one would expect in such a bigger SUV, along with comfort and value. The strong 2.0L powertrain and bigger alloy wheel make your driving exciting, and the cabin experience is enhanced by a 12-inch touchscreen, leatherette seats, and most desirable technology features like three-zone AC, adaptive cruise, and blind-spot monitoring. Safety isn’t compromised, too, and so, here it is, everything a family wishes, either for their everyday commute or for road trips, it has the assurance of doing the job well without the highest price tag.
Verdict
The Teramont is a remarkable family SUV which comes with a promise of all the ingredients such as spacious interior, superb comfort, convenience and cabin with latest tech-features.
The 2024 facelift brings in all the necessary changes that make it even more compelling. It has an impressive exterior, a premium cabin and great driving dynamics with powerful, robust and refined engines. Practically, German reliability is another hallmark of this three-row SUV that families can trust and rely on for their everyday driving needs.
If you’re in the market right now, hunting for a suitable SUV for your family, which happens to be bigger, and prefers a spacious cabin and big boot but with the assurance of great driving, with safety, technologies and driver assistance features at the right price, the Teramont fits the bill.
