Toyota Hilux Champ pickup truck unveiled globally

ABU DHABI: Toyota Hilux is one of the best lifestyle utility vehicles that has set a benchmark for reliability, toughness, and durability across the global automotive market. However, due to its high pricing, everyone may not be able to afford it. Considering this, the company has unveiled the pickup truck's more budget-friendly derivative, the Hilux Champ, based on the IMV 0 platform. This pickup truck has been initially unveiled in Thailand. It will be launched in other international markets soon. 

The Hilux Champ is the second product under the Hilux brand, offering up to ten configurations, varying by market. It is an alternative to the expensive and larger Hilux. This model was showcased initially at the Japan Mobility Show as the IMV 0 concept and is a good choice for those seeking tailored options. After a few months, it was shown in Indonesia as the Toyota Rangga Concept. 

The Hilux Champ SWB has a 2,750mm wheelbase and 4.9m length. Its dimensions are similar to the Innova Crysta, boasting a ground clearance of 180 mm. Meanwhile, the Hilux Champ LWB has a 3085 mm wheelbase and is 5.3 m long. Its height, width, and ground clearance are similar to SWB.

The Hilux Champ is available in three engine options: a 2.7-litre petrol engine producing an impressive 166 bhp and 245 Nm of torque; a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 138 bhp and 183 Nm of peak torque; and a 2.4-litre diesel engine churning out 148 bhp and 350/400 Nm of torque. The transmission will be managed by a 6-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota has not confirmed whether the Hilux Champ will debut in the UAE.
