Suzuki to discontinue Jimny in the European market this year

ABU DHABI: Suzuki has decided to cease the sales of the Jimny in Europe. This decision has been taken to meet the European Union’s stricter CO2 emission standards. Suzuki has also announced that it will now introduce new models, focusing mainly on Battery Electric Vehicles in the region.

The zero-emission vehicle mandate will start in 2024 at 22% and is expected to rise to 80% by 2030. For non-compliance substantial penalties may be imposed. To mitigate emissions, Suzuki is planning to come up with more electric vehicles by next year including the eVX SUV. It also aims to introduce Jimny's all-electric version in Europe before expanding to other markets.

The Jimny is sold in Europe as an N1 commercial vehicle. Its availability is limited to select countries. In most markets excluding Germany, new orders have been halted. Suzuki has also come up with a final edition known as the Jimny Horizon. It will be limited to 900 units and will feature special graphics, unique paint, and other distinctive touches. This edition is a two-seater, based on the commercial variant.

While the Jimny 3-door sales will stop in Europe, the SUV, in its 5-door and 3-door variants, will be available in other markets. The Jimny is currently available in the UAE and Suzuki will continue its production in the future in this region unlike the situation prevalent in Europe.
