One turbo less, but 2019 Porsche Macan S V6 packs in more power

ABU DHABI: The refreshed 2019 Porsche Macan officially debuted in July this year and automobile enthusiasts finally got a glimpse of the car that had caught their fancy since it was first announced. But changes to the vehicle, as predicted by many industry experts, were not exactly obvious. The German carmaker, however, had claimed that the car would have major styling and technical upgrades. While there are some undeniable changes on the technological side, the look and feel of the car are almost the same like its earlier avatar. The noticeable changes include newly-designed taillights, LED headlights, new colour options, and a 10.9-inch upgraded infotainment system.

2019 Macan Front

The 2019 Macan, during its release, was available only with the four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged motor. The Stuttgart-based high-performance automobile manufacturer has now expanded the engine options in the Macan S. The car is equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine, which replaces the V6 from the earlier version. The vehicle is built upon the success of its predecessor and the benefits range from chassis updates to improved handling.

The V6 motor in the 2019 Porsche Macan S is shared from the Panamera, Cayenne E-Hybrid, and the regular Cayenne models. However, unlike the earlier V6 motor which comprised a twin-turbo system, the new version has only one twin-scroll turbocharger. The power output is a robust 353PS (+13) along with a peak torque of 480Nm (+20). The new engine helps the Macan S to sprint from 0-97kmph in just 5.1 seconds. The acceleration is even greater at 4.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono optional package. The top speed of the car is more than 250kmph.

Porsche Macan Rear

The chassis upgrades in the 2019 Porsche Macan S are really impressive. The re-tuned anti-roll bars deliver more neutral handling. The front strut forks are now aluminium-made instead of steel. Porsche claims that this has made the Macan S lighter while offering a better riding experience.

That aside, with the more powerful V6 engine hauling the car, the Macan S is equipped with bigger front disc brakes. These are 2mm thicker and 10mm larger than before. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as option for those looking for more powerful braking.

Stopping power was also updated for the 2019 Macan S. Thanks to the more powerful V6 up front, Porsche installed bigger front disc brakes that are 10mm larger and 2mm thicker than before. But for those that prefer even more powerful brakes, the Macan S can be equipped with the optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). Complementing its improved braking performance is a lighter brake pedal that weighs 300g less than the previous offering. Porsche claimed this makes for improved brake responsiveness, as well as precision.

The 2019 Porsche Macan S will arrive in global markets in Q2 of next year.
