Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé Unveiled: The Entry Point Into AMG's New GT Family

Abu Dhabi: Mercedes-AMG has just pulled the wraps off the GT 53 4-Door Coupé, the newest and most attainable member of its redesigned GT 4-Door family. It rides on an 800-volt battery, a twin-motor setup good for 544 hp, and a synthetic six-cylinder soundtrack AMG's acoustics team spent months capturing. 

Sales open in Germany on 13 August 2026, and while Mercedes-Benz UAE hasn't confirmed a regional date or AED pricing yet, AMG models this size typically reach Dubai and Abu Dhabi within a year of a European debut.

Powertrain: How the Electric Drive Unit Works

Two synchronous electric motors drive the car, with the rear-axle motor running at 93 per cent efficiency from battery to wheel on long journeys. A two-speed transmission handles the spread: first gear (11:1) is tuned for standstill acceleration and city efficiency, second gear (5:1) for motorway range and comfort. 

The front motor acts as a boost unit, engaging only under load through a Disconnect Unit and staying dormant otherwise to save energy. Combined, both motors produce 400 kW (544 hp) peak and 270 kW (367 hp) continuous output.

Battery, Charging and Cooling

The 106 kWh battery uses cylindrical, directly cooled cells (105 mm tall, 26 mm diameter) with a laser-welded aluminium housing and a silicon-containing anode chemistry, pushing energy density past 298 Wh/kg. All 2,660 cells sit in 18 modules, individually bathed in non-conductive cooling oil, a setup built to hold performance steady through repeated hard runs in extreme heat. Charging tops out at 600 kW on 800-volt DC stations, adding 534 km of range in 10 minutes, and the system auto-switches to 400-volt mode where infrastructure is limited. A Central Coolant Hub manages thermal loads across the battery, motors and Onebox, shifting cooling capacity wherever it's needed most.

Sound and Driving Modes

The AMGFORCE Sport+ programme simulates gear shifts and reproduces an authentic AMG inline-six note, sampled from the old E 53 Coupé's engine across 16 microphone positions and over 100 rolling-road measurements. Paddle-shift gear changes work in this mode too, alongside a dedicated central-tube driver display. 

Six AMG DYNAMIC SELECT programmes cover the rest: Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, Slippery, Eco and Individual, spanning relaxed cruising to full attack mode. A Sound Slider (Powerful, Balanced, Minimal) and a Response Control rotary dial for throttle mapping let owners fine-tune the character independently of drive mode.

Design, Aerodynamics and Dimensions

The fastback silhouette sits 4 cm lower than its predecessor despite housing the underfloor battery. AEROKINETICS aero comes standard as an active rear spoiler that stays retracted below 150 km/h and deploys at speed or under hard driving, plus an optional rear diffuser tuned for long-distance efficiency.

Interior and Customisation

The cabin pairs a low, sports-car seating position with a 14-inch driver-angled central screen and an optional second display for the front passenger. Rear passengers get individual seats rather than a bench, and the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof switches from clear to opaque in segments. AMG SET-UP lets owners remap steering-wheel buttons and manually deploy the spoiler and diffuser at low speed for extra presence in traffic.
