BYD secures top spot in global EV sales

ABU DHABI: As 2023 came to an end, BYD marked its second consecutive year as the leader in the EV segment, reaffirming its innovation in sustainable transportation. The Chinese automaker set a sales record in the global plug-in electric car segment.

BYD reported selling around 3,024,417 EVs in 2023, marking a 61.9 per cent increase from the last year. This helped BYD secure its spot as a top contender in the electric vehicle market globally and also placed it amongst the top 10 automakers worldwide while solidifying its position in Chinese domestic vehicle sales.

One of the best things is that BYD was able to increase its all-electric car sales significantly by around 70% compared to last year achieving a sales record of 190,754 units. This accounts for 56% of BYD’s total passenger car sales, showcasing the ever-increasing demand for electric vehicles globally.

The top nameplate in the lineup of BYD is the Song family with around 84,039 units sold with most of them being plug-in hybrids. With a record of around 50,525 units the compact electric BYD Seagull became the second most popular model.

In Q4, BYD became the world's largest plug-in electric car and PHEV manufacturer, the largest Chinese carmaker and all-electric car manufacturer. 

In the UAE, BYD offers the following models- Atto 3 and Han. The Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company is the electric mobility-focused dealer of BYD in the UAE.
