BMW M2 Competition now comes with carbon fiber M performance goodies

ABU DHABI: At the recently concluded Goodwood Festival of Speed, BMW revealed M2 Competition with optional goodies directly from M Division. The car will now sport various upgraded M parts. Most of these M performance parts will be made from carbon fibre, in order to reduce the overall weight of the car.

The Bavarian automaker is already offering some of these M parts as an option while purchasing an M2 Competition from the dealership.
To reduce the overall weight of the car, this M2 Competition comes a hood that is made from carbon fibre and directly cuts down 8 kgs as compared to the M2’s standard hood. The fenders of the car are crafted from carbon fibre as well, which shaves off an additional 3 kgs. Furthermore, the front winglets are also made from carbon fibre.

The roof of the car is now replaced with carbon fibre unit. With this, 6 kgs of weight is reduced and it also helps in lowering the centre of gravity of the car. New forged 19-inch wheels finished in Frozen Gold have been introduced in this car which are 6 kgs lighter than the standard set. The carbon fibre trunk will further reduce the weight of the vehicle by 5 kgs.

The interior of the car has also been introduced with carbon fibre including the cabin. The front seats now weigh 9 kgs lighter than the ones in M2 Competition, while the rear seats weigh 13 kgs lighter. The lightweight battery further reduces the weight of the car. The coilover suspension helps in lowering the vehicle by 20 mm.

BMW M2 Competition weighs 60 kgs lighter than the standard M2 Competition. This will help the car to go faster along with better handling. Some of the M performance parts are already available at the dealership. While the parts like trunk and fenders which are yet to be made available will be introduced within the year, as told by BMW.
