2024 Lexus ES facelift revealed in China

ABU DHABI: After a series of leaks, the second facelift of the seventh-generation Lexus ES has been officially unveiled at Auto Guangzhou in China. The refreshed executive sedan features significant technological and aesthetic enhancements both outside and inside, though it will have the same engine options as its predecessor.

The Lexus ES now features the “seamless” grille, first seen on the RX, which transitions smoothly from the body colour to an open grille with octagonal inserts. Updated headlight internals complement the design showcasing subtly reshaped air inlets and a unique dual-L lighting signature.

At the rear, the taillights mirror the double-L motif, which now comes with a full-width light bar. Additionally, the traditional “L” logo has been replaced by Lexus script, enhancing the modern look of the car.

A redesigned centre stack has been introduced by the Lexus ES facelift, now housing the updated Lexus Interface system and a larger 14-inch touchscreen that replaces the previous touchpad for easier control with dual rotary dials. To accommodate these changes, the lower dashboard and centre air vents have been redesigned.

The cabin boasts many luxurious features, including a walnut or bamboo trim, a seven-inch digital instrument display, semi-aniline leather seats with memory, heating and cooling functions, active noise cancellation, a panoramic sunroof, triple-zone climate control, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and wireless charging. A new gear lever has been added to cater to the preferences of younger Chinese customers.

In China, the updated Lexus ES retains the same powertrains as its predecessor. The ES 200 will feature a 2.0-litre engine generating 170 hp. On the other hand, the ES 300h hybrid combines an electric motor with a 2.5-litre engine for 215 hp. Both models utilize a front-wheel drive and CVT. 

The Lexus ES is now available for order in China, with prices starting at ¥299,900 (AED 184,690) for the ES 200 Premium Edition and going up to ¥488,900 (AED 301,084) for the ES 300h Executive Edition.
