Toyota seized fake car parts worth Dh 26 million

In collaboration with the government, the Toyota UAE recently seized and destroyed Dh 26 million worth fake car parts. A total of five raids on duplicate parts dealers in Dubai and Sharjah have been conducted in the third quarter of 2019.

The confiscated items mainly comprise of serviceable goods such as oil filters and brake pads. If we see their quantity and value, around 34000 oil filters worth Dh 760,000 and approximately 6000 brake pads worth Dh 1.5 million were seized. The carmaker stated that fake brake pads were made of asbestos or dried grass and other cheap material which pose a risk to public safety.

If we talk about the fake oil filter, the company official clarified that it was also made of poor quality which could degenerate more quickly. This might lead to engine failure and expensive repair.

The brand stated that the customers’ safety holds paramount importance for the firm and it is committed to protect consumers from the threat of dangerous counterfeit parts. Saud Abbasi, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim-Toyota said, “We also have a responsibility to ensure people can identify genuine Toyota parts from fake items and we will continue training official inspectors to help in this fight. The success of these raids would not have been possible without the help of the UAE government, local Economic Departments and the Police. We would like to thank them for their efforts in making these raid campaigns so successful.”

For this purpose, the firm is also providing training to almost 100 government officials of the country to identify counterfeit products. This move of the automaker is really appreciable as these parts can cause harm to longevity, reliability, and value of the vehicle as well as affects occupant safety.
