BMW reveals 2020 8 Series Gran Coupe; production to start in July

ABU DHABI: The premium car manufacturer, BMW is expanding the 8 Series with consecutive launches. BMW’s top-tier two-door arrived less than a year ago and now the carmaker has revealed the four-door 2020 8 Series Gran Coupe, which will hit to the production this July.

2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe can wear the M Sport Package, which will provide some extra add-ons like bespoke side skirts and rear apron, air intakes, illuminated door sill plates, M leather steering wheel, 19- or 20-inch lightweight M alloys and M Sport brakes. Furthermore, the M Carbon exterior package and Chrome Line exterior pack are also available to provide some extra customisations.

The coaster will come with three different engines including 3.0-litre Twin Power Turbo mill that powers the 840i xDrive and 840i. It is capable of churning out a maximum power of 340 PS along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. The car is equipped with the rear-wheel-drive that can complete the popular sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.2 seconds. On the other hand, the engine can also be mated with all-wheel drive layout and this version can complete the same sprint 0.3 seconds faster than the rear-wheel-drive layout unit.

Following this, there is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel mill, which provides a maximum power of 320 PS and the peak torque is 680 Nm. To touch the century mark, the car takes only 5.1 seconds. On the other hand, the top-end variant comes with a 4.4-litre Twin Power Turbo V8 engine, which is available exclusively in the 850i xDrive. It can make a maximum power of 530 PS along with a peak torque of 750 Nm. It takes only 3.9 seconds to complete the 0 to 100 kmph sprint.

All the engines are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox and can make the car to achieve a top speed of 250 kmph.

Getting inside the cabin, the car looks similar to the two-door version. All the features like a heads-up display, three-spoke leather steering wheel, iDrive infotainment system, digital instruments, and leather upholstery are retained. However, the car has some additional equipment as well, like 40:20:40 rear split folding seats, a Bowers and Wilkins sound system, and four-zone automatic climate control.

Deliveries of the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will start by the end of the year.
