A 2019 Toyota 86 for the ‘green’ at heart

ABU DHABI: For various reasons, car manufacturers tend to steer away from the color green for their regular offerings. Perhaps it is too bright for the masses to accept or it could be the various stigmas attached to the color. In the racing world, the color green is synonymous with some of the best racing machines the world has ever seen. They were painted in a color called the British Racing Green. These speed demons were driven by the best racers in the history of racing.

We are talking about the Lotus and Austin racers back in the day. Due to the massive success of these racing machines, several manufacturers tried their iteration of this color on their sports cars. One such manufacturer is Toyota with its sporty 86. The company has launched a special green 86 called the ‘GT British Green Limited’. To keep in line with the racing pedigree of the color, this dark metallic green Toyota has a slew of performance upgrades. These include red Brembo brake callipers along with Sachs dampers, which should help improve the handling a fair bit. Another cosmetic change on the exterior is seen in the form of the 17-inch bronze alloy wheels.

Changes have been made to the interior as well. You get brown accents tied together with Alcantara, giving it an old school look. Brown accent switches are incorporated on the steering wheel along with the shift boot.

It is unlikely that this British Green 86 will see any changes under the hood. This means that it will have the same 2.0-litre non-turbo 4-cylinder mill which makes 205 bhp and 212 Nm of torque. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual / automatic transmission. The 0-100 kmph sprint is dismissed in 6.2 seconds. Unfortunately, this Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited will be a Japan exclusive model and may not see the light of day in other markets.
