Toyota Motor North America has taken the wraps off the all-new 2026 RAV4. America’s best-selling compact SUV now dons the hybrid avatar in its sixth-generation version. The SUV will be offered in three new styles: Core, Rugged, and Sport, with the U.S. market’s first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT model.
The new RAV4 introduces several technological upgrades. These include the Arene software development platform, an updated Toyota Audio Multimedia system, and improvements to the Toyota Safety Sense active safety features. Here are the complete details of the new RAV4.
Powertrain - No more petrol-only models
Starting in 2026, Toyota has decided not to sell petrol-only models of the RAV4. From that year on, all models will run on either a hybrid system or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). This decision shows Toyota’s focus on green vehicles. It aims to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions without compromising the practical features of the RAV4.
The most crucial update for driving fans is the increase in power. The 2026 RAV4 plug-in hybrid now offers 320 hp, up from the earlier 302 hp. Under the hood, the car features a combination of a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, with two electric motors and an 18.1 kWh battery. This setup provides quick acceleration and good fuel efficiency.
The SUV will be available in FWD and AWD options, depending on the chosen grade. The GR Sport models will get GR-tuned suspension, summer tyres, power steering and increased body rigidity.
Enhanced Range and Charging Speed
The RAV4 plug-in hybrid now has a range of up to 50 miles on electric power, up from 42 miles in the older model. A big new feature is DC fast charging, which few plug-in hybrids have. This allows the vehicle to recharge quicker and makes it better for longer trips.
Exterior Changes
The new look of the RAV4 isn't completely new, but it appears more modern and sleeker than the previous model. The headlamps have a shape similar to the C-shaped lights found on other recent Toyota models. This design is often called a "hammerhead" look because it resembles a shark's face.
The top-end GR Sport trim gets 20-inch wheels, while the lower grades come with 17-18-inch wheels. The rear of the vehicle has striking LED taillights that stretch across the tailgate, giving it a fresh look.
Contemporary Interiors
The cabin of the 2026 RAV4 is enhanced with better materials and new tech features. Top trims include a big 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Toyota is also launching a new software system called Arene. It makes the user interface smoother and allows over-the-air updates. Voice commands, navigation, and multimedia controls are all better with this new setup.
Most RAV4s come with cloth or faux-leather seats, but sportier versions like the XSE and GR Sport have faux-suede seats with red stitching. The cabin feels spacious enough for adults in both the front and back seats. The 2026 RAV4 will be the first to get Toyota’s latest Safety Sense 4.0, which will include new hardware and improved detection features. More details will be shared closer to launch.
Expected Price
Toyota will not announce the price of the 2026 RAV4 until closer to the launch date, which is scheduled for later this year. The new model is likely to cost more than the current one (AED 99,900 - 139,900), primarily because a hybrid version will now be standard. The starting price is expected to be around $34,000 (AED 124,880). The GR Sport PHEV could go over $51,000 (AED 187,320).
