The British brand, which is marking the end of Bentley’s W12 engine era, has introduced a refined yet more powerful 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 to lead its high-performance push before electrification takes over.

A Lighter, Faster Bentayga Speed

The decision from Bentley to phase out the 6.0-litre W12 engine is not only about efficiency; they want to upgrade strategically. The new V8 adds more power and also shaves 43kg off the SUV’s overall weight, which is now around 2,465kg.

This weight cut, with rear-wheel steering and enhanced chassis tuning, allows the Bentayga Speed to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, which is half a second quicker than its predecessor.

The SUV can reach a top speed of 310 km/h, which shows off its supercar-like pace despite Bentley's statement that it’s “not trying to build the most powerful SUV on the market.”

It may fall short of horsepower compared to rivals like the Ferrari Purosangue or Aston Martin DBX S, but the Bentayga Speed’s performance still leads in the luxury SUV sector.

The rest of Bentley’s future vehicles will feature hybrid setups, with its first all-electric SUV, which is rumoured to be smaller than the Bentayga, set to debut soon.
