Mazda CX-3

On the inside, the Mazda CX-3 is not as heavy and wide as a conventional crossover but has sleekness and minimalism lending it a classy touch to the cabin.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with silver touches at the lower spoke has been lifted off from the Mazda 3 hatchback, and so is the three-part instrument console with an analog central tachometer and digital panels flanking it for other details.

The dashboard has round propeller-like AC vents at corners and centre console, with the latter having soft-touch leather finish. The upper dashboard has a free mounted trapezoidal-shaped touchscreen infotainment system at the centre, which comes with all the modern smartphone connectivity options.

For an entry-level crossover, the Mazda CX-3 is blessed with a decent equipment list on board, including automatic climate control, push-button start with keyless entry, cruise control, height adjustment for driver’s seat and tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel.

The Mazda CX-3 might not have the rugged appeal of an SUV, as the compact size and the curvy theme does make it loose out on a butch stance. However, the sleek design and heightened stance do make it quite appealing.

With a familiar Mazda-esque face with large rounded like grille with tapered edges finished in chrome and sleek trapezoidal headlamps with rounded edges placed just adjacent to the grille, the Mazda CX-3 has got a smart looking front fascia.

Moving towards the side, and the Mazda CX-3 looks like a raised hatchback on stilts, thanks to high ground clearance and rugged-looking side body moulding flowing across the side profile. The moulding below the doors also come with a sleek looking chrome finish as an added design element.

The curved bonnet, window frame and fender above the front wheel arches do give an aerodynamic appeal to the Mazda CX-3. The blackened and unique looking C-pillar design too looks individualistic.

At the rear too, the Mazda CX-3 has a sporty look with curved rear windscreen and large roof spoiler. The trapezoidal tail lamps with rounded edges and a clean looking boot lid design, with cladding on the rear bumper, gives it a smooth profile at the back.

The Mazda CX-3 comes with a slightly stiff setup for the suspension at both front and rear, which given the appeal of the crossover, is more suited for urban driving. The 16-inch wheels also aid in the great ride and handling balance of the car. The all-wheel-drive system works flawlessly in channeling power to all the four wheels as well.

The engine employed for the Mazda CX-3 is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which is available with two drivetrain options – front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the engine produces 148 PS of maximum power output and 192 Nm of torque output.

The Mazda CX-3 is decently equipped with all the essential safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control, electric parking brake and reverse parking sensors with camera. For its category, the list of safety features in the Mazda CX-3 matches that of other cars that it faces competition from.

For an entry-level crossover, the Mazda CX-3 is decently equipped with comfort and convenience features as well as safety kit, along with smart and modern styling on the outside and sophisticated looking interior cabin. All these attributes do make it feel like a more premium alternative to other similarly sized crossovers.
