BMW X6

On the inside, things are not as dramatic as that are on the outside, with the cabin of the X6 reminding you of a high-end BMW sedan. However, one thing that is clear – is the cabin oozes premium appeal with high-quality materials and impeccable fit and finish.

The BMW X6 too has the same monotonous looking instrument console as well as the conventionally styled three-spoke steering wheel from the lower priced BMW sedans. However, the centre console is styled quite differently, with the rectangular large infotainment screen mounted on the upper portion of the dashboard. The centre console and infotainment system are separated by a nice character line finished in dark wood, which incorporates AC vents in the middle.

Like all the high-end BMWs, the X6 too is heavily equipped with all the state-of-the-art comfort and convenience features.  Also, available are the various leather upholstery options to choose from. However, given the sloping roofline, the space for rear passengers is quite cramped due to limited headroom.

The X6 happens to be one of the best and most unique looking BMW vehicles designed till date. Unlike the other SUVs which are designed quite conventionally, the X6 breaks the norms and blends in design cues of both a coupe and an SUV.

At the front, the BMW X6 manages to look quite bulbous, thanks to the raised front bonnet, traditional double kidney grille, large full LED headlamps adjacent to the grille on both sides, and the heavily designed front bumper. The adequate use of chrome on the front grille, fog lamps surrounds, and front bumper adds to the premium appeal of the X6.

It is the side profile of the BMW X6 which happens to be the most dramatic one. The high ground clearance and the large alloy wheels give it the impression of an SUV. However, past the B-pillar, the X6 exhibits its coupe side in full glory, with the roofline sloping down smoothly like a sports coupe.

At the rear, the X6 has a squatted stance, with the high mounted boot-lid and the license plate place on the rear hatch. The slanted rear windscreen and full LED tail lamps might remind you of a regular BMW sedan, however, the raised ride height generates a unique impression.

Given the squatted stance and BMW’s faultless balance of ride and handling, the BMW X6 remains a fun to drive vehicle despite its raised stance. The xDrive tech, as well as Dynamic Stability Control, manages to keep the body roll well under control and make the X6 ready for urban as well as rough road conditions with ease.

The BMW X6 is blessed with two different petrol engine options for the UAE market. Starting off with the smaller one first, the 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 engine develops 306 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the bigger powerhouse of the two, a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine, pumps out 450 PS of power and 650 Nm of torque. Both these engines are coupled to a common 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Being one of the flagship models from BMW, the X6 doesn’t compromise at all on the modern safety amenities. The SUV packs in a kit which includes front, side, and knee airbags, Active Driving Assistant with Surround View which includes Speed Limit Info, Frontal Collision Warning, Pedestrian Protection and City Collision Mitigation. Also, present is a BMW Assist eCall which includes Emergency Request (SOS button) and Enhanced Automatic Collision Notification, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC).

The BMW X6 is purely one of a kind vehicle in the flagship SUV segment. With its coupe-like design and carefully crafted and properly equipped interior, the X6 manages to create a style statement. All making it one of a kind luxury SUV. At the same time, the sporty driving dynamics give it a car like feel while driving, which is hard to find in an SUV.
