Volkswagen teases Golf facelift with illuminated logo

ABU DHABI: Volkswagen has revealed a glimpse of the refreshed version of its hatchback, the Golf. This new Golf version was teased in an official video where CEO Thomas Schäfer showcased many innovative technologies and features including an illuminated badge. The new Golf is expected to arrive in the GTI and R forms by 2024.

The revamped Golf features a "unibrow" LED light bar with the illuminated VW logo. This design was seen for the first time earlier this year on the Touareg (facelift). The new headlights give a stylish appeal to the car and offer optimum visibility. Inside, you will find a huge touch screen placed like other models such as the Passat, Tiguan, and ID.7. 

As for the mechanical setup, it is assumed that the performance-oriented variant GTI may get a power boost and retain its manual transmission, while various upgrades are also expected for the top-tier R model.

The discontinuation of the Volkswagen Golf Mk8 has been announced even before the launch of the Mk8.5, as the all-electric Mk9 is scheduled for release in 2028, which will underpin the new SSP platform. 

With plans for an overall shift towards electric vehicles in 2033 in Europe, the period of ICE-powered Golfs seems to be coming to an end. Despite the modifications of the upcoming Mk8.5 including a large touchscreen and design tweaks, there remains an uncertainty regarding its ability to propel the Golf to the top of sales charts.
