Toyota's upcoming IMV 0 pickup may get the Hilux Champ moniker

ABU DHABI: Toyota is taking strategic steps to broaden its Hilux pickup lineup with the introduction of a smaller model based on the IMV 0 concept. It will most likely be called the Hilux Champ, as reported by Autocar. It is expected to hit ASEAN countries, like Thailand, by 2025.

The IMV 0 platform was introduced in Indonesia for the first time through the Toyota Rangga concept. It later appeared at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. The IMV 0 concept, which serves as Hilux Champ's blueprint, signifies Toyota's forward-thinking approach to engineering and design.

The upcoming Hilux Champ will most possibly be offered in a diesel engine, likely Innova Crysta's 2.4-litre unit, and a strong-hybrid powertrain. An automatic gearbox option will also be available. The Hilux Champ's EV version will not be offered. 

Toyota's IMV 0 platform features a modular design. This makes it possible to attach various bodies to the flatbed section for different applications, making it easier to convert the platform into a coffee bar, food truck, mountain rescue ambulance, or safari camper.

The IMV 0 platform may also lead to the production of the Fortuner's more affordable version. The global portfolio expansion of Toyota includes the introduction of the Crown Sport SUV to the Century lineup and a high-riding sedan to the Crown range.
