Toyota GAZOO Racing Dominates Rallye Monte-Carlo with Historic 1-2-3 Finish

Dubai: Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) has made a powerful statement at the start of the 2026 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season by securing a historic one-two-three finish at Rallye Monte-Carlo. This unbeatable performance establishes the GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID as the benchmark in rally racing. This has happened under the leadership of Jari-Matti Latvala, that left everyone at awe, even their competitors. This is the first time since 2015 when Toyotas locked the podium.

Know the Champion: Oliver Solberg

By winning the rally at just 24 years old, Oliver Solberg has achieved various milestones for himself and for the team to mark his name into the history books. He with his co-driver Elliott Edmondson delivered the exceptional performance with the TGR-WRT Rally1 line-up. He achieved the following milestone:

• Youngest Winner: Become the youngest winner of Rallye Monte-Carlo in the modern era.
• Family First: He is the first member of the famous Solberg racing family to claim victory at this event.
• Two-for-Two: This win marks his second victory in just two starts with the Toyota GR YARIS Rally1.

The Runner-up

Not just the champion but the runner-ups Elfyn Evans with co-driver Scott Martin in the second and Sebastien Ogierv with co-driver Vincent Landais in the third place showed exceptional consistency. With these results the Toyota is leading the manufacturers’ championship with 59 points. Now they are in the commanding position for the 2026 season. 

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the results the TGR-WRT Chairman, Akio Toyoda congratulated “Oliver and Elliott on the victory and said I never thought that I would be able to say congratulations to you for the second time so soon. I  am happy to have such reliable team-mates join the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WRT family. I also want to thank Elfyn, Scott, Seb, and Vincent for making a 1-2-3 finish in this season opener. Later he thanked everyone on the team for these exceptional results even in the challenging situation. 

Championship History

Toyota has been participating in many different forms of motorsports, including Formula One, the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Nürburgring 24 ‎Hours endurance race and recently finished the RAC Rally of the Tests 2025. These are managed by the sole establishment Toyota Gazoo Racing established in 2015. It fuels Toyota's belief ‘the roads build the people, and the people build the cars’. What’s Next?

Toyota GAZOO Racing’s sweeping 1-2-3 finish at Rallye Monte-Carlo marks the historic achievement for the racing history and sets the tone for the upcoming 2026 WRC season. The WRC  does not end the hard work and slow down them. From now on the teams will start preparing for the Rally Sweden (February 12-15). This will also test the team to the limits as it will be held on the snow and ice only. Would need a precise tyre strategy, sharp vehicle control, and unwavering confidence from drivers to continue the winning streak.
