OMODA & JAECOO Launches Advanced AI Driverless VPD Parking Solution in the UAE

Dubai: Parking in Dubai on a 47°C August afternoon just got a technology solution. OMODA & JAECOO has announced the introduction of its VPD system (Valet Parking Driver) to select models in the UAE market. The system uses AI to autonomously manoeuvre the vehicle, identify an available space, and self-park without the driver inside the car.

It comes with two features that deserve more attention: first is "Come When Called." The second is "Leave When Waved." This means that the vehicle parks autonomously when you leave and returns to your pickup point when you're ready. The car does all by itself, no need for an attendant. 

What VPD Actually Does

Most autonomous parking announcements describe vague capabilities. But OMODA & JAECOO have named two specific functions that matter most for UAE buyers, which are as follows: 

Leave When Waved: The driver exits the vehicle at a drop-off point, waves, or triggers the command. Just like that, the car autonomously goes to find an available parking space and completes the parking independently. No need for driver input during the whole parking process.

Come When Called: When the driver is ready to leave, they summon the vehicle to a designated pickup point using smart technology. The car navigates from its parked position to where the driver is waiting all by itself. 

Both of these functions were publicly demonstrated on the JAECOO J7 SHS at the Beijing Auto Show and the Chery International Business Summit. While some of the things are yet to be cleared, like the: 

• Specific models and trims that will offer VPD (at retail) 
• Whether VPD works in unstructured/outdoor car parks or if it requires smart parking infrastructure only.

Why This Matters for Daily Life in the UAE

Parking in Dubai or Abu Dhabi isn't just inconvenient. During the summer months, it's physically uncomfortable in ways that most automotive technology has ignored. 

A covered parking space at Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates is accessible. An outdoor bay at a JBR venue, a business district car park in DIFC, or a hotel drop-off on a Friday afternoon in July is a different situation entirely. Temperatures in outdoor car parks regularly exceed 50°C on vehicle surfaces during peak summer hours. Walking back to your car after two hours inside means re-entering a cabin that's been baking for the same duration.

The "Come When Called" function addresses that specific scenario directly. You walk out of the venue, trigger the summon, and the car comes to you at the entrance. You don't walk to the car in the heat. The car walks to you. That addresses the direct problem in the UAE summers. 

The "Leave When Waved" function solves the other side. Crowded mall visits during Eid weekend, peak-hour arrivals at Downtown Dubai, and events at Expo City. These are moments when drivers feel the real pressure in navigating.
