New Tesla Model S and Model X Updated; Big Alloys, New Colours, More Range

Abu Dhabi : The prices have been slightly hiked compared to the previous versions.

Tesla has rolled out model year updates for its Model S sedan and Model X SUV in international markets. Both vehicles now feature small design tweaks, better ride comfort, new features, and an extra colour choice. Prices have increased sharply by $5,000 (AED 18,360) across all versions.

Exterior design upgrades

Styling updates for the Model S are mainly seen on the 1,034 hp Plaid version. It features bolder bumper designs with larger front air intakes, which Tesla says helps improve stability at high speeds. The Plaid also has new 19-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels, with 21-inch wheels as an option. 

For the Tesla Model X, new 20-inch alloy wheels are introduced, which can be upgraded to 22 inches. Aside from these wheels, the SUV does not see any other visual changes.

The latest Model S and Model X can now be ordered with a new Frost Blue Metallic paint for an extra $2,500 (about AED 9,180). Tesla has also replaced its black options with a new Diamond Black finish, costing $1,500 (around AED 5,508). Both models are now equipped with a front parking camera, which helps with Autopilot and Smart Summon features. 

These models also feature adaptive headlights for better visibility at night.

Interior and feature upgrades

The interior now features better soundproofing and active noise cancellation, for quiet and relaxed driving. Both the Model S and Model X have received upgrades to their ambient lighting, which can now be customised and stretches up to the footwells.

Tesla has also made more space in the third row of the Model X. The SUV’s boot space has grown by 70.8 litres, giving extra storage. The non-Plaid models of the Model S and Model X no longer have the option of a yoke steering wheel. However, it still costs an extra Rs 86,080 (around $1,000) for those choosing the Plaid models.

Battery and range

The 100 kWh dual-motor setups for the Model S and Model X have stayed the same, though their driving ranges have improved. The Model S Long Range now claims to go up to 660 km on a single charge. The Model S Plaid’s range has increased to 592 km, offering more distance between charges.

As for the Model X, the Long-Range version can now travel around 566 km on a full charge. The Plaid version’s range is slightly lower at 539 km.

Suspension and performance tweaks

Tesla has added new bushings to the suspension of the Model S and Model X, as well as improved their design for a smoother ride. The Model S Plaid is now 26 pounds heavier. Its top speed is limited to 240 kmph, down from the previous 322 kmph. The Model X Plaid weighs 183 pounds more, but its top speed stays the same.

Pricing

The Tesla Model S Long Range now has a starting price of $84,990. The Model S Plaid version is priced at $99,990. For the Model X, the Long-Range version begins at $89,990, while the Plaid costs $104,990. These prices are for customers in the USA. The updated prices for the UAE are expected soon.
