Mitsubishi XRT Concept previews next-generation Triton/L200 pickup

ABU DHABI: Mitsubishi has offered the first official look of its next-generation Triton in the form of the XRT concept. It is a preview of the Triton / L200 pickup's next-generation model that is coming to rival the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. The midsize pickup truck was revealed at the Bangkok motor show.

As per a few reports, the XRT Concept appears to be a liveried and pumped-up version of the production-ready ute. A "next-generation diesel" engine will power the revamped midsize pickup. Some electrification is also expected to meet stringent emissions regulations. The production version of the Triton will debut by July this year in Thailand.

The Triton XRT Concept looks rugged and features an imposing front fascia with a large rectangular grille along with a two-tier lighting setup. The XRT concept also boasts a set of wheel arches that cover mud-terrain tyres. It also features a black heavy-duty sports bar and a more interesting side profile than the current-generation model. The Ralliart logo on the side profile will remind you of Mitsubishi's motorsport heritage.

Additionally, the concept will be equipped with a tubular structure on the rear bed, grippy mud-terrain tires, a snorkel, and wide fender extensions to give it a rugged look.

Mitsubishi has not revealed the specifications of the vehicle, but it is expected that the Triton will be based on the Nissan Navara's ladder-frame chassis reworked version. The pickup is the top-selling model of Mitsubishi, manufactured in Thailand at the Laemchabang factory and exported to one hundred and fifty markets.

Mitsubishi will test a prototype of the new Triton at the upcoming 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally event. The first production model will hit Thailand sometime between March '23 to April '24 before rolling out worldwide. The new Triton/L200 is also expected to launch in the UAE market after the global debut.
