JAECOO J8 SHS Powertrain Explained: Two Super Hybrid Choices, Up to 169 km on Electric Power Alone

Dubai: The JAECOO J8 SHS is a seven-seat SUV that uses a plug-in “Super Hybrid System” to mix everyday electric driving with long-distance petrol range. You can choose a front-wheel-drive Luxury or an all-wheel-drive Performance.

One Engine, Two Different Personalities

The Performance adds a rear motor for all-wheel drive, with a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds against 9 seconds for the Luxury.

Battery, Charging and the Power-Bank Trick

The Performance has a much bigger battery, which explains its longer electric range and quicker charging. JAECOO claims a total range of up to 1,300 km, combining petrol and electric power. Both trims can also power outside devices at up to 6.6 kW, so the SUV can run laptops, tools and camping gear.

Drive Modes Built for Weekend Escapes

Both trims offer EV and HEV modes, so you can stay electric around town and switch to hybrid for longer trips. The Performance goes further, adding Sand, Mud, Off-Road and Snow modes plus CDC electromagnetic suspension, which adjusts damping on the move. With a vectoring all-wheel-drive system sending power to each wheel, it is the better pick for desert drives.
